Amazon.com Review

Produced by a leader in the garden-tools market, the Fiskars bypass pruner is perfect for precise, clean cutting of green growth. The pruner features Fiskars' trademarked PowerGear design, which maximizes lopper leverage to reduce cutting effort and is an ingenious innovation with impressive results. As you draw the long lopper handles together, the outside handle moves the gears, closing the blade with less exertion. The replaceable xylan-coated blade reduces friction and resists rust, and the handles are made of aluminum, so they're light and cause less fatigue. With its 2-inch cutting capacity, this is definitely a professional-quality pruner; even weekend gardeners can benefit from its fantastic design. Limited lifetime warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great as reviues
Easy to use and a plus to all the outher reviues. Ran into a piece of barb wire last fall clearing brush for my daughter, put a nick in the cutter, broke my heart. Called fiskars got 2 new blades about $7/00 each friendly courtious service. I have been logging firewood this summer and these are about as handy as another hand. I dont know if I could break them but I have made them squeek like the log splitter

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my loppers!
There are some purchases I've made over the years that delight me, or elicit a prayer of gratitude every time I use them. Our dishwasher comes to mind. My little Polartec hat from Land's End. My cordless drill. My Fiskars PowerGear Pro Bypass Loppers.

I've worked with many different brands of loppers, both puttering around our home and cutting brush for the park department. These are much sturdier and cut more easily than any other loppers I've used, including a very respectable model by Sandvik.

One little quibble I have is the lack of a remote control switch. ;o)

3-0 out of 5 stars The only Lobbers To Buy
This is by far the best out there. Be sure to spend the extra money and buy this longer handle one. You will be very happy. My Mom which is 80 years old cuts with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best loppers I've ever owned!
I've owned a lot of pairs of loppers and I always seem to break or bend the handles. Not so with the Fiskars. I am a strong healthy guy and I can cut through anything I can get into the jaws. This includes branches dead or alive up to 2 inches. I have been using my Fiskars for the last three years for cutting ski and hiking trails in Maine and they continue to perform better than anything I've ever used in the past. Another benefit are the bright orange handle ends. I used to tie surveyors flagging to my tools so I wouldn't loose them if I put them down in heavy brush. The Fiskars handles are always visable and easy to find inspite of my absentmindedness. The price at Amazon is the best I've seen by $10-20. Having used this tool hard for the last three summers, I don't think I will ever have to get another pair of loppers again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fiskar's PowerGear Loppers
I'd like to say first that the price for this item is unbelievable. I've seen it locally in a hardware store and in a gardening catalog I receive for at least $15 dollars more than the Amazon price.

The loppers are very light and the power gear makes it very easy to get the torque needed to cut through one inch to one and a half inch limbs with no sweat. I've got average strength, middle-age and arthritis and am able to enjoy cutting brush with these..mostly saplings and tree limbs that I want to clear along my driveway.

I know Fiskars is a good name in cutting shears for sewing and I hadn't realized that they also manufactured tools; but I'm extremely happy to have found this out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best all-around medium-sized lopper
This is Fiskars model # 96276935. I bought model # 96276949, which, through close examination of photos, appears to be identical (difference might be the retailers it's sold to, or perhaps country of origin -- which, BTW, on mine, was unfortunately [illegally?] not listed anywhere).

I bought this lopper because of the "gearing" or as I call it, "mechanical advantage", or as some others call it, "bypass" feature. Basically "gears down" your movement to make every stroke much more powerful, like a truck shifting into a special low gear to tow. And it really works great. Not only that, the nyglass handles make the whole unit extremely lightweight. This model is cheaper than the bigger version because it's smaller, which is an advantage for most home users -- easier to store, lighter weight and smaller size make it easier to get into the brush and awkward positions. This lopper will take surprisingly wide sticks for its size -- anything within reason, and maybe a little more. But the best part is that if you can fit it into its mouth, you will be able to cut what's inside, even if you are elderly. This is not true on many other loppers, even for strong people, especially on those "old school" loppers (you know what I'm talking about), and, even worse, "clippers" with that dreaded "lopping notch" which never worked right.

My friend who is a gunsmith and knows more about metals than anyone I know, doesn't like the fact that the blades are made out of stainless steel. He says stainless dulls quickly on greenery, which surprised me, because stainless is the hardest common metal. He does think fiskars garden/flower snips are the best made, though. I am personally glad the blades are stainless though, because I left it out for a few days with moisture, and there was no rust. Plus, the cutting blade is coated with a 'non-stick' coating, and just about everybody who buys this medium-sized model is not using them for professional purposes, just around the house. I keep the blades oiled up and upon doing 2 medium-sized jobs so far the blades seem just as sharp and I expect that to continue. The blades are replaceable anyway with two simple nuts, and the blades were very sharp from the factory, which again is not always the case with other mfrs. The whole unit, though lightweight, feels very solid and has very tight tolerances -- shake it and twist it, and there is little to no rattle or play -- very impressive. The light weight is something most people overlook when shopping for loppers -- again, good for everybody, but especially seniors. I also like the look. I find the actual shape of the handles works well, too. I don't miss the foam handgrip found on some huge loppers.

The blades are very curved, and there must be a reason for this, but it can make getting larger pieces a bit trickier to get in, especially in an awkward, overgrown bush. No biggie. I do think the biggest room for improvement would be the placement of a rubber or plastic shock absorber where the metal pieces meet when fully closed, to make it easier on the user in terms of vibration. I took a piece of folded-up duct tape and duct-taped the small wad to that connection point to decrease vibration. It's a little messy and needs redoing every job or so but can help make the job painless, especially for those with arthritis or joint or bone pain. Even without that "mod", the loppers perform very well, and I think most people wouldn't see a problem there, though I do. Fiskars' high-end (big) loppers do have the rubber or plastic bumpers.

I bought mine from Lowe's because I needed them immediately, but these at Amazon are a little cheaper, with the free super saver shipping, and Amazon's return policy is actually almost certainly more liberal. The previous Amazon review helped me come to my conclusion, and I think Amazon is the world's best online retailer and ecommerce website. Though completely email-based, I have had very good customer service which has gone above to exceed my expectations when returns were needed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these from Amazon, especially if your job can wait a few days. For most jobs, I think this medium size will better-suit most people, as it's lighter, easier to use, and cheaper, and still has a wide mouth.

Bottom line: this is the only medium-sized bypass/mechanical advantage/geared lopper I could find, and that's okay, because of its exceptional quality of design & solid manufacture, bringing good value in quality, price, and uniqueness. I just don't see why anyone would buy a non-mechanical-advantage lopper, so if you're in the market for one, this is it, and this is the lowest price you will see (I checked around). I just wish I knew where they were made (if any subsequent reviewers know this, please say it).

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the BEST lopper for thick branches
I've tried just about every type of lopper, and this one is by far the best. I've used them just about every day for the past 3 years. For heavy duty pruning they are fantastic. I even use them for limbing trees while I'm logging (it saves on gas and wear-and-tear on my chainsaw, and is much faster and safer).
The patented gear design is what sets it apart. It allows for tremendous leverage (much more than even a compound lopper - which can be double the price, and being more complicated, less durable).
I'm amazed more people don't know about these. I guess the simple, inexpensive design appears too good to be true. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This small, lightweight anvil lopper provides all the leverage and strength required for most small shrub and tree pruning jobs around the yard. The tool has a 1-1/4-inch cutting capacity and a unique PowerGear design, which maximizes your leverage for easier cutting of those tenacious sticks and branches. The handles are made of strong reinforced nylon, and the blade is rust-resistant stainless steel, so the tool will enjoy a long life of service. Weighing only 13 ounces, this lopper is great choice for the casual weekend gardener who wants to conserve strength for other pursuits. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't try on large branches
This unit works well for small branches. The light weight is appreciated, and the stainless blade is a useful upgrade as standard blades rust from the tree sap. But I used mine on some heavier branches, still within the recommended diameter range, and something slipped so that the blade no longer touches the anvil. The tool therefore is practically useless, as you do not get a clean cut. There is no way to adjust or fix this pruner when that happens. And the lifetime warranty is of dubious value, as you must send the tool back at your expense, plus keep and be able to find the original receipt. They should model their warranty after Craftsman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Tool
From the makers of the world's best scissors comes a lopper which is truly a must-have for the home gardener (or the pro, for that matter). Light in weight, powerful beyond it's size and infinitely useful, this is a quality tool at a good price.

Unleash the power of Corona's new Stratashear technology with this 26-inch bypass lopper. Stratashear 3 is a patented three-stage formula used to reduce friction. Here's how it works: Corona starts with a radial arc, forged Coronium steel alloy blade. A metal alloy is permanently fused to the blade's surface, ensuring abrasion resistance. The fluropolymer layer gives the blade nonstick, continuous blade lubrication. The result? Cutting is up to 32% easier, so you sweat less, work less, and spend more time sipping lemonade. The bypass blades can be resharpened, and the light, sturdy aluminum handles feature Corona's ShockStop bumpers to reduce fatigue. This model has a 2-1/2-inch cutting capacity; Corona also makes a Stratashear lopper with a 1-1/2-inch cutting capacity. Limited warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Haircutting Tool on the Market
We was in a crisis over in Skunk Holler (which is a suburb of Moonshine Holler). Ned the Barber was fed up with wearin' out all his shears and scissors on his clientele (and we're a hairy bunch) to the point he was thinkin' about shuttin' down. Can't be no civilization without a barber, so I lended Ned my CORONA CLIPPERS.

And these just ain't any ol' clippers. With 24-inch handles and a cutting diameter up to two inches Ned has the leverage and power he needs to slice through shaggy manes that ain't been combed in years. Heck, flat-top, buzzcut, crewcut, or mullet, Ned can create any look you want with just a couple of snips. And with nonslip foam grips he don't make the unsightly mistakes he once did with his rusty scissors. Cousin Buford is so taken by Ned's skill with this lopper that he even goes in to get his back and armpits trimmed (of course, Buford's got thyroid problems that seem to kick up during a full moon).

This product has a long name, but it saved our little town. CORONA CLIPPER FL-3460 COMPOUND-ACTION BYPASS LOPPER. You know, Uncle Cy had to have a bypass, but I never figured it had to do with clippers. And all of us here in Skunk Holler thought Coronas were green bottles of beer. Sure proved us wrong, by golly!

4-0 out of 5 stars A GOOD REPUTATION
This is a solid tool. With hollow fiberglass handles it weighs almost nothing.I do not however recommend this tool for the small yard homeowner. These are very big and awkward loppers. With 24'' handles you really get the reach out of them but,in most cases this size lopper is just too large. It is a fine quality tool that will last a lifetime if maintained properly. If you intend to just putt around the yard or garden doing seasonal pruning. This tool might not be your best bet.Amazon offers a big selection of corona tools so, find the tool that fits your needs best. Now get out there and do some major pruning.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really nice tool
This tool behaves exactly as advertised and then some. The handles are super comfortable, even after using the tool all day. The compound action really does make it easy to cut through even the largest branches and vines. The rubber stop prevents jarring.

This is the best lopper I have ever used. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars replacement blades and anvil
I love this loppers and it took me awhile but I found the replacement blades. Call Corona toll-free, phone number listed at their website coronaclipper.com. These items are not listed on their website-Part #FL3420-1 (blade) and #FL3420-2 for (anvil). Hope this helps!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, you can get new blades
Great tool for general pruning. Do not believe reviews downgrading this product due to alleged false claims regarding blade replacement.
Those blades are available. I just purchased one. It is about $.... Buy it and have fun pruning.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Clipping!
I love to use this anvil lopper. It makes trimming SOOO easy. But now I'm disappointed because there is no replacement blade to be found. The product still advertises replaceable blades- I just saw them in the store! That's not right!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good lopper but replacement blade is not available!
I really liked this lopper. I've had it for over 2 Years and worked it really hard. Unfortunately, I loaned it to my neighbor and he gave it back to me with a couple of large chips in the blade which makes it difficult to make a clean cut through a limb of any size. Sure wish I cold get as replacement blade! If replacement blades were available, I'd rate this lopper as 10 Stars!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
I've used one of these for almost three years and made MANY THOUSANDS of cuts - oak branches, whitethorn, manzanita, and also dead wood. Mine are getting a little long in the tooth, but still cut well after sharpenings with a flat file. This is one of my favorite hand tools. ... Read more

Corona's professional heavy-duty bypass lopper is the Cadillac of loppers. A compact 26 inches long, with tapered hickory handles, the lopper has blister-deterring nonslip grips. The forged Radial Arc bypass blade has a 1-1/2-inch-diameter cutting capacity. The lopper also boasts a slant-ground hook with a self-cleaning sap groove for consistently smooth cutting. We have to admit, however, that we're really wowed by the neoprene ShockStop shock bumpers. Side by side with other bumpers we've tested, the ShockStop shock bumpers prove to be distinctly superior in effectiveness and durability. This is the smallest model of the heavy-duty bypass lopper; the larger versions are 30 and 36 inches long. ... Read more
