Long-time customer's first time warranty claim ignored!
3 weeks ago, I contacted Maglite for a replacement switch for my 4-D flashlight, in which the switch failed. The customer service rep asked me for my serial number, which I gave her and she assured me that I could get a replacement switch. I gave her my name and address and she said that a shipment had just gone out, and it would be in the next shipment. That was fine with me. Days turned into weeks. Still no part. More days went by. STILL no part in the mail.

Hmmmm. Is this how long time customers are treated? I previous owned a variety of their flashlights, from an AAA Solitaire to a 5-D flashlight, at least 5 in total. My dad has purchased in the neighborhood of 15 or more himself, starting in about '86 when someone else turned him onto Maglites.

Customer support is as important to me as the product itself. Has customer support become a casualty of a tough economy?

This long-time customer will have to look at alternatives the next time he's buying a flashlight.

Okay for the price, but significantly outdated technology
Positives:
* built like a tank
* reliable
* Well designed switch

Negatives:

* extremely poor beam quality (full of holes and rings, yellow-brown beam color)
* old technology (doesn't use a Luxeon star LED bulb)
* Very little usable sidespill

Overall: For a $20'ish light, its fine for the average person that is satisfied with a mediocre flashlight. However, the excessively poor beam quality (yellow beam that turns brown as the batteries dim, plus rings and holes in the beam) and mediocre sidespill really take lots away from this outdated flashlight.

All I can say is that this is one of the best flash lights I have ever used. I like it so much that I bought two of these: one for work and one for my car.

I work the night shift. I use the work one often. It is bright and very solid. The size is just about right. It is not too big like its larger brothers, but just big enough to feel secure while holding it.

A great value! If you are looking to buy a flashlight, look no further. This is the perfect one for the home consumer.

Imminently durable
I've had my Mag 2 D-cell flashlight for over 10 years now, and it still works flawlessly. While other flashlights have rotted, rusted, or just plain broken, my Mag still shines. It's literally the last flashlight you'll need to buy.

The fact that you can adjust the beam from a broad floodlight to a focused spotlight is nice, though I've found that mine doesn't focus into a small, even circle as well as I would like.

Terrific Flashlight For Home And Vehicle!
Anyone who lives as far out in the rural countryside as I do gets accustomed to power interruptions, whether they are due to downed power lines from ice storms, someone hitting a key telephone pole and knocking out a transformer, or is the result of one of the occassional electrical storms we have during the warmer months of the year. In any and all of these circumstances I can always depend on my collection of mag-lights to see me through the darkness of the house in order to light my well-used candles and oil lamps until the power is finally restored. I also have one in each of my two trucks, and when I recently narrowly missed hitting a startled deer late at night and went off the road into a muddy field, the trusty mag light was invaluable in helping me find a winching point to pull myself out of the muddy gully. So, whether it is a venture down into the blackened hole my basement becomes late at night, or finding my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I can always depend on my mag lights to candle-power my way wherever I am going. I have four or five of the middle-sized ones like the one displayed here, but actually also have three or four of the largest ones as well. I love mine, and although I seem to misplace at least one or two a year, I always have an ample supply of both mag-lights and replacement batteries because I find they are absolutely essential out here in the woods. Summer is coming! You need to get this!

usually, "reconditioned" includes a functional product, with the dirt removed, having the parts screwed back together, and a box with directions - at the least- but that was too much to ask for here.
For a lot less money, you can buy a bic lighter- and it will stay lit longer.

about the propane gas?

Homework, Baseball, and the Coleman Stove
We use the Coleman Grill Stove at my son's baseball games. During week nights with homework and all the schedule works well for families on the team to share dinner after the game. We cook hotdogs and burgers on the grill for about 30 to 40 people. The kids love it and my wife has been voted team MOM the last couple of seasons. I love the fact that cool spring evenings or cooler fall evenings we can have hot water for tea, cider, or coffee. With the burner we can not only grill but provide chili for the dogs or what have you. We use a larger white style propane tank (I think 2 gallon) and it works and takes us through a season.

Gotta be a Coleman!
If you're a camping family, you own something Coleman! In the last year I've bought a coleman tent, sleeping bags, mattresses, cooler, lantern, and the amazing powercat heater. Now I own this stove, replacing separate propane grill and butane stove, and saving precious cargo space. HOT! Sturdy, both the grill plate and stove grate are substantial. The lid is removeable and latches securely for carrying(via the handle under the grill!). Line the area under the grill with foil and there's no clean-up! One curious note is that it won't stand on it's edge, so you're laying it flat or leaning it against something when not in use. There is an optional griddle available to replace the grill, makes it perfect for eggs/pancakes!
Coleman simply has THE best products for family camping, and when my child is old enough for the backcountry...we'll be using coleman exponent!

We love this stove!
It is more compact than the previous stoves we've used for camping/fishing trips, it is easy to set_up and easy to clean up, and it is versatile. In fact, my wife likes it so much that she'll often set it up on top of our electric range in the kitchen and cook on it right there! Well worth the money. :)

Great addition to our Pop-up Coleman camper
This is what I have been looking for, our family has a Coleman pop-up camper with a two burner stove. That stove can be used inside and outside the camper by removing it from the inside console and connecting to external coupler outside. This model grill stove will eliminate that need and is great for a quick hotdog or hamburger not to mention hot cakes for breakfast by adding the Coleman griddle that replaces the grill plate a great addition...depending on where you order or buy it I paid [money] well worth it. Too SMALL for three people...
I purchased this boat for my trip on the Au Sable River. My very first time on the river, and there was only TWO of us in the boat. Even with just two people and a small (tiny) cooler (for few drinks and sandwiches), we felt CRAMED IN it. There was no room for our legs (they just hang out of the boat for 5 hours during our river trip). The divider in the middle of the boat was kinda nice, because I sat in the front and leaned my back on it, while my friend sat in the back, not knowing where to put his legs, because there was no room for them. It was kinda a funny, yet uncomfortable situation. I strongly suggest buying a BIGGER boat (maybe a 4-person) for two people.
