No hammock yet, but the stand is great!
I bought this stand because it was in my gold box for a good price (plus free shipping!), and I had intended to buy a hammock/swing anyhow. I cannot attest to how the stand performs with a hammock or swing, since I haven't gotten around to buying the swing yet, but the stand itself is great. I got it about a month and a half ago. The box it arrives in is quite large, as is the stand. However, the stand was very easy to put together. I did have some difficulty getting the last "button" to click into the stand, since you really have to put your weight into it, but otherwise, it was fairly self-explanatory. The swing is very strong (I could hang from it without any problem), and looks like it will last a long time. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Swing Stand (doubles as Chin Up Bar)
I bought this stand with the single Hatteras seat. If you've the space for the stand, it's excellent. Good enough, in fact, that I am saving for a double seat. It's not the height that is an issue, it's the base. The four feet extend out considerably offering great stability, but they DO extend out.

The surprise for me came as I finished putting together the stand. At first I hung from the top bar, then I realized that I could do chin ups and the stand held me without so much as a flex; I'm 5'10" and 165lbs. (um, I did have to tuck my legs a bit to keep from hitting the bottom bar).

I'm ready to buy another one to take to work, just for stress relief. Very nice frame, simple construction, great green paint (too early to see if it endures).

A stable stand
This arrived at the office in a nearly seven foot long box. I got at least as many stares from people in the office as I did from people on the road as I drove home with the top down and this box sticking up several feet into the air.

Once at home and unpacked (give yourself a lot of room) I set about putting it together. After looking over the directions I slid all of the pieces together pretty quickly. Over all it took about forty five minutes to unpack, assemble and place the stand. There were no tools required although the instructions recommend a hammer to tighten the joints. If you use a hammer make sure it is a rubber mallet. Scratching the paint with a metal hammer will only lead to rust and I bet returns would be really difficult with dents along the frame.

It has been up for about three weeks now and remains solid and stable. I haven't tested the maximum weight rating but I would bet that the rating is conservative. The frame is tubular steel about two inches in diameter.

Another caution, the stand arrives in one box and it is heavy. If you cannot carry lot of weight get someone to help you move it.

Perfect for my Costa Rican hammock chair
This product is perfect for the hammock chair I purchased several years ago in Costa Rica. I also purchased the Hatteras Hammocks Green Swing Chair as a replacement for my Costa Rican hammock; the chair is very well designed and comfortable.

Be sure to ask Amazon for dimensions if you don't have a lot of space. This frame is about 6' tall and 5' wide, so it needs a lot of space. It's perfect for our backyard, but I wouldn't recommend it for indoors.

Also, although this product is listed as a "swing stand", I don't believe that is the purpose of this product. If you want a swing, you should probably invest in a swingset. This is not a children's toy, but an outdoor lounging accessory that does provide some swinging motion if you are sitting in it with a breeze blowing. It's sturdy and stable, so it's quite safe and will last for many years.

As for putting it together, I was able to assemble it in ten minutes (including unpacking time). It does not require tools to assemble and comes with s-hooks for easy hanging for whatever chair you have.

All in all, this is a great product.

This is an excellent product. Easy to put together. However, it is a little bit bigger than I expected it to be. this chair "rocks"

i love sitting in it in the evenings watching deer and wild turkeys feed on my lawn here in the SD black hills. the chair is comfortable, unique, easy to assemble and draws a lot of envious comments.

My parents love it!
I bought a pair of these for my folks on their anniversary. They're sturdy, natural-looking, and are comfortable to kick back in. Assembly is pretty easy, although not all that fast, and they do occasionally have splinters. Once it's weathered a bit, though, they are great to lounge in and birdwatch or read or just enjoy the sun.

EXCELLENT CEDAR ROCKER
THIS IS A GREAT STURDY CEDAR ROCKER WELL WORTH THE MONEY. TOOK ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO ASSEMBLE. THEN I PUT A COAT OF THOMPSON WATER SEALER. I'VE HAD IT OUT ON MY FRONT PORCH NOW ABOUT 8 MONTHS AND IT LOOKS AS GOOD AS THE DAY I PUT IT OUT THERE. NOW I HAVE JUST PURCHASED THE CEDAR LOG GLIDER TO MATCH. I'M SURE I'LL ENJOY THAT JUST AS MUCH AS THE ROCKER. :)

pleasingly rough and rustic
I bought this for my wife who loves rockers and the "hand hewn" look. This fit both bills. it went together well, and looks wonderful sitting on the porch. the only criticisim I could come up with is that it is a little tall for those folks around 5' 2" (like my wife)yet that dosen't keep her from enjoying it, I just have to build a matching foot rest. looks great right out of the box but I do recommend putting a good quality finish on it. surprizingly comfortable.

2 years later....
I wrote a review 2 years ago and decided to update it. My two gliders are still beautiful. I could not be more pleased! We have since moved to a new house and our gliders came with us. One is on our porch and the other sits at the pond. They have both weathered to a beautiful gray and are as sturdy as ever. If you ever have the chance to obtain this glider, do it!

VERY NICE LOG GLIDER, WELL WORTH THE WAIT
THIS IS LOVELY LOG CEDAR GLIDER. VERY RUSTIC LOOKING TOO. IT GOSE VERY GOOD WITH OUR CEDAR LOG HOME. IT TOOK THREE ADULTS ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS TO PUT IT TOGETHER. ONE OF THE OVERSIZED LEGS GOT IN THE WAY OF THE SEAT SWINGING SO WE HAD TO CUT AWAY ALITTLE OF THE LEG. OTHERWISE WE JUST LOVE IT! I GAVE IT A GOOD COAT OF THOMASON WATER SEAL BEFORE PUTTING IT OUT ON THE PORCH. THE ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT I HAD WAS THE SHIPPING TIME. I PLACED MY ORDER IN SEPTEMBER AND DIDN'T GET THE GLIDER UNTIL DECEMBER. SO IF YOUR IN A HURRY YOU MIGHT WANT TO DOUBLE CHECK THE SHIPPING SCHEDULE. BUT OVERALL I'M GLAD I PURCHASED IT!

Overall a nice piece of outdoor furniture
I managed to get this together in an hour and a half. The only glitch was one of the glider straps hits against an oversize leg post in the glider frame. I whittled some of the wood away with a pocketknife (hey, it is supposed to look rustic, right?) and problem solved for the most part.

It probably won't fit well with the deck furniture we will eventually buy, but it is comfortable and good looking in a "Grampa's log cabin" sort of way.

Has been a pleasure....
I will say first- I love my two Lakeland gliders. I bought them both Summer of 2001. my father and I put them together but it took an afternoon to do it...not a mere hour. The directions were a bit ambiguous and the deep cracks in the wood...although natural and supposed to be there, I at first thought was a flaw. The holes were small and it was a "bit" difficult to get together, but once they are together, you know they will stay together. We used additional screws just to make sure. They glide wonderfully and we spent all Summer and Fall on our patio, enjoying the fire and gliding the hours away. The best surprise, they are supposed to age to grey but they still look practically brand new and Kansas winters are quite punishing. We have left them exposed to the elements and they still look beautiful. When I first opened that box and saw the split wood and the less than adequate instructions...and then had some difficulty in putting it together...well, I am just glad that I waited to write this review. They are true gems in my backyard and wouldn't give them away for anything....

Not what I wanted
I bought the swing and had a hard time putting it together because the rope was a hastle.when I finally got it together I didn't like the way it looked. The seat is short and the back looks awkward the way it sits straight up. The first year I had it (last year) it blew over and the wood split in a few places.I've had to replace the wood and keep the swing because you no longer carry this item. It was expensive and I never have liked it. Now I'm out the swing and the money.

Great swing!
This is the most comfortable swing I've ever had.Forget owning wooden swings--this one is designed for true comfort.Mine held up for three years in our windy, country setting.I remade the canvas portion once in that time due to constant sun, but the wood (which we sealed upon purchase with wood sealant) held up well.I'm looking for another.

The best lawn swing ever!
We have had our swing for 4 years and it is wonderful. We have never found another swing as comfortable. Because of the "sling seating" it fits everybody's "bucket".Ous swing has sat out in the weather for four years and it is time to replace the cloth parts and we are trying to find replacement covers.

A fine find!
This swing was a great find. Having shopped around in 'real' stores, I at last found a swing with the features I needed here on line. While this seat nicely fits two, I personally was looking for a seat to be cross legged and upright in. An especially nice feature is the adjustable back which allows for even an upright posture. A socket wrench was required though not specified in the directions. Visualizing the positioning of the ropes was a little tricky. Not good quality at all.
I have had similar problems to many of the reviewers of this item. The glider was not packed well at all, without padding of any kind, and the bolts fixed on the end pieces caused damage to other pieces. I decided I could probably live with a scuff or two, and began my attempt to assemble the glider. One would not expect this to be difficult with pre-drilled holes and minimal hardware, but it was a major pain. The holes don't line up, the wood is very soft, the instructions are vague as to what should be tightened and when, and the whole thing was very frustrating. I finally ended up drilling my own hole in one instance, and when it was finally put together, the assembled piece seemed quite flimsy. I notified Amazon, and they wanted to send a replacement, but there was no way I was going to the trouble of disassembling that stupid thing to return the original, just to have to go through the frustration of assembling another shoddy piece of work. It was such a pain to put together in the first place. So, I cannot recommend this glider at all, I'm afraid. First major disappointment in a purchase on Amazon, but I have to say that customer service was excellent from the Amazon folks. I'm giving this two stars instead of one because it still looks fairly nice on the porch, even though I wouldn't trust it to stand up to very much use over time.

Worth $100 -- get what you pay for
Overall, this is a decent glider for $100. It looks nice out of the box, but looks even better if you apply a couple of extra coats of teak oil right away.

This is not a sturdy piece of furniture, but will accomodate two 150 lb or less people well. While functional, I think this piece is better suited for display.

The assembly instructions are poor, but if you're a handy person who has built pre-fab furniture before, you should be able to do this in about 30 minutes. The trickiest part of the install is getting the little round inserts with the threaded hole to stay in place while you align the screw. In the box I received, there was an extra screw and I assume this is to thread into the end of the round pieces so that you can hold them into position while you insert the mounting screw. The instructions did not say this, so it is only my assumption...perhaps the screw packer at the factory just dropped an extra one in my bag by accident. :)

I'm giving this 4 stars because it met my expectations. If you're looking for a quality piece of furniture that will last for years, then this is probably not the best choice.

Pretty But Not To Sit On
I gave this one star as we are on our second glider with both being broken. The first one broke the first time we sat on it. Neither my husband nor I are large people so we were surprized the underside seat cracked. We sent it back and received a second glider. It is now sitting in our backyard cracked and broken on the right leg base. Amazon.com is not to blame. The manufacturer, Strathwood, has created a weak product that should not be sold to consumers until they can correct the problem and create a glider that can withstand weight. We assumed being a two-seater glider that it was intended to be sat on but we are afraid to get near it. Also, my two year old sat on it and it rocked backwards and she fell off. It is not easy to assemble and took my husband (who is a tool guy) many hours to get together. I appreciate Amazon.com's efforts to help replace and/or give me a refund. I regret that we still don't have a useable glider in our backyard.

A bit weak, I'm afraid
Bought this for my wife and she absolutely loves it! The only problem is that the seat crossbar broke in half about the 3rd time she sat on it... and she only weighs about 130 lbs... I weigh 260 and wouldn't dare sit on it...
But I called customer service and they are sending me a replacement, so I have to put a checkmark on the positive side on this one...

Pretty but Very Uncomfortable-
I ordered two of these and they were promptly shipped. The wood is extremely soft and had no real difficulty in putting together but they back is HORRIBLY uncomfy. I had about ten different people try and sit and the position is horribly uncomfy. Please take my warning and DO NOT buy this unless you just want something to look pretty in your garden. There were some gouges and the instructions did not tell you how much to tighten the bolts for the swing mechanism but it does look ok.
