Amazon.com Review

Large cuts of meat like ribs, roasts, and whole chickens call for the slow, even heat of indirect cooking. But arranging hot coals around the outside of a grill can be messy and difficult. This pair of metal rails solves the problem by holding charcoal in place against the side of a kettle grill, allowing you to place a drip pan in the center to capture juice for sauces and prevent dangerous flare-ups. Heat from the racks rises, reflects off the inside of the grill, and surrounds the meat with heat from all sides--much like a convection oven but with the improved texture and flavor of grilled food. To adjust the temperature inside the grill, simply add more coals. These charcoal rails fit all kettle grills 18-1/2 inches in diameter or larger. --Mary Park ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Charcoal Rails
If you have a Weber or other kettle grill, these are a must have. Cheap too.

Keeping the coals contained for indirect cooking make it easy to add coal, either with or hinged grill, or by lifting the edge of a regular Grill.

Grab some drip pans too, (but wash 'em, don't throw 'em away each time) and go slow smoke something yummy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great grill, but one design flaw
We love the Weber Genesis Gold C gas grill, but there is one amazing design flaw: the handle of the gas grill gets as hot as the inside of the grill! Not sure why Weber has a handle that conducts heat, but you must wear a very thick oven-mitt to not get burned. We've had the grill for over 2 years, and every once in a while I still forget and get a nice burn. Other than that, it's a great grill.

5-0 out of 5 stars The one and only true grill
I didn't want to buy my Weber before the patio is done. Which will be in late June. But, something happened. Then, the Weber end up in my garage. You know the story.
It's been bit more than two weeks since I bought the Weber Genesis Gold C. We have grilled 8 times on it. Including scallop, baby back ribs, country style ribs, spare ribs, fish, stack and some vegetables. ALL CAME OUT PERFECTLY. If you were doing research like I did. You can stop right here. You don't even need to finish this review. Just go and buy a Weber Genesis grill Gold or Silver, you will be a happy person for at least 20 years. Just like me. ;-)

I spent three months researching gas grills. Checked into brands including Jenn-Air, NexGrill, Char-Broil, COSTCO brands and Weber. I emphasized on two things, how well does the grill cook and how long will the grill last. I don't care how bad or cheap it looks, don't care about any special features (smoker tray, rotisserie kit). What I found out from reading reviews on alt.food.barbecue, amazon.com and several other grilling/barbecue web sites is that countless people swear on their Weber gas grill, all the other brands together have less than a hand full of people. Also buying and reading the two best grilling book before the purchase helped me a lot in what I should really look into in detail.
The two books are:
Weber's Big Book of Grilling
by Jamie Purviance
How to Grill: The Complete Illustrated Book of Barbecue Techniques
by Steven Raichlen, Greg Schneider

I am, or shall I dare say "was" :-), not an expert griller. I was able to fully understand what the books said and able to follow the books. Which results in perfect food. My ribs are better than the ones from Sweet Water Tavern. The baby back ribs from Sweet Water Tavern was my family's favorite. With the same amount of money we paid for a rack, we can have 4 full racks now. Anyways, back to the books. The Weber book explains in detail about the characters of different food and also how to take advantage of their characters not just deal with them. I was able to understand the grill better because I understand the food, which the grill is designed to deal with, better.

I am not going to say too much about grills other than Weber's because I've never used them. All the knowledge I have about them is from other people's experience. The conclusion I draw from my research, alt.food.barbecue, web sites, Consumer Report and a cooking magazine(forgot name), is that if you want the same cooking quality like Weber, you would have to pay more than 3 times for other brands. And Weber throw in the unparalleled durability and quality pre/post sale customer service for free.

I bought the Genesis Gold C because of the durability of Stainless steel parts. Though many people in their review said the cast iron sear stack better. I still went for the stainless steel and paid more. Now, after 3 meal of perfectly seared stack, I realized that I could have saved some if I went for the Genesis Silver. No regret though. I would not recommend stainless steel grates other than the solid thick bar type grates on other brand's grill. The reason Weber's relative thin stainless steel grates can still sear great is because the grill can reach 800F. Yes, you read me correctly, my Weber can reach Eight Hundred Degree F with only 36000 BTUs. This actually caused me some problem when I tried to do some medium temperature cooking. The grill would not drop below 300F. I read about this in reviews and also called Weber. The reason is that the new stainless steal cover reflects heat too well. After several usage, the inside of cover looks dark brown and black and the grill surly can drop to around 250F now.

Not like the Coleman, which grills food pretty well but took my friend 6 hours to assemble. My Weber took me 15 min to assemble. Only 8 big scrolls. Weber even provides tools to do it.

Weber's customer service is perfect. Never had to wait for more than 2 min. You might say if the grill's quality is good, why would you ever call customer support. This might be true for you expert grillers, but not for me. I appreciate very much Weber support people's courtesy and knowledge of their product.

I can't say my Weber is the best looking grill. To be honest, it actually look cheap. When my wife saw my Weber the first time, she said "What, you spent $??? for this?" I said "Wait till you try the baby back ribs". She now constantly beg me to grill. Partly because then she does not have to cook, but I believe it's mostly because the quality of food from "My Weber". :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars well worth it...
i recently purchased the GENESIS GOLD C at a great price on amazon .com..also free shipping,,i saved myself about $150.00 as opposed to buying at a retailer it was well worth the money,,,the stainless stell looks great,,but not as important as the way it cooks,,,everything ive cooked so far,,steaks ribs, chicken, etc,, ive grilled and steamed vegetables, has tasted great,,the 15 min assy claim is a litle wishful thinking ,,it took me about an hour,,

5-0 out of 5 stars Supergrill!!
We're heading into our second summer with our Genesis Gold C. It's been GREAT! It is very well designed and built. The flexibility of the 3 burners with the wide heat output range makes anything possible. It's a nice big grill, something I've needed for a long time. I added the smoker accessory which takes away about 3 inches of grill space, but there's still plenty left. And the smoker works well. I especially like all the "counter" space you get with the Gold C. I haven't used the side burner as much as I expected, but it was handy when I wanted it. It's so unbelievably good to not have to deal with charcoal! Turn it on, turn it off - so simple, so clean! When I was shopping, I was concerned about the welded sheet metal grate. I was skeptical that they wouldn't cook the meat as well as welded rods (like those in the Summit) or the cast iron grate that comes with this grill at Home Depot. No worry - the stainless steel grate works wonderfully! It cleans up real nice and it isn't rusting away or sagging, at all.

I have to warn about the accessories. The reviewer that gave it 1 star was right about the cover. Of course, he is way out of line giving the grill a bad rating because of the optional cover. The cover has mesh vents right above the hood handle. A lot of rain and dirt can get in where you really don't want it. I also have had no luck making the funny basket style rotisserie work. I have a friend that bought the same grill and the same rotisserie, and he says it works fine for him. I guess I just don't get how to work it. As I said, the smoker was a good investment. Oh, yeah, the cast iron griddle is really neat. It eats up half of the grill space (more than half if you leave the smoker in), but grilling onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc. is much simpler on a griddle than a grate. And it fits on our gas stove in the kitchen, too. (psst.. I had to go elsewhere to get the griddle and the smoker - amazon didn't have them, am I allowed to say Abt?)

There are only a couple things that bother me about the grill: the wheels and the way the frame screws tend to work loose. The main wheels are the same as those on my old (real old) Weber Kettle, and those eventually disintegrated. The Genesis wheels show no signs of that happening, but eventually, I'm afraid they will. The little swivel casters on the other end really don't feel like outdoor sort of wheels. They get bogged down in my grass and I tend to lift that end and move it around like a wheel barrow. Maybe that's what causes the frame screws to periodically work loose. That's annoying, but easily fixed with a socket wrench.

But, you know what? The Genesis performs so overwhelmingly well that those complaints pale in comparison. So I will still give it an enthusiastic 5 stars! I love it! ... Read more

The deliciously cooked foods Weber grills produce are reason enough to keep yours clean and protected year-round with a weather-resistant Weber grill cover. Weber standard grill covers fit over the upper half of the grilling units, leaving the legs, grill bottom, and fuel tank exposed. Like all Weber grill covers, this one is made of heavy-duty vinyl that resists cracking even in subzero temperatures. It fits Weber Genesis Silver-B grills and Genesis 1,000 grills, as well as the older Spirit 700 grills and Weber 900 grills. --Benjamin Reese ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great cover
This is a great cover. I used to have a full length cover on my last grill, and it was a pain to take on and off, so most of the time is stayed off. I use my grill several times a week, so ease of use is a big factor for me. I was concerned that it might blow off in a windstorms, but I haven't had a problem with that.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love my Weber Genesis 1000
I have had the short cover on my grill, for the past 6 years, which is located on my deck overlooking the water, and I find that this type cover is less noticeable and easier to remove and replace than the full covers. It just now is starting to show some wear and I want the exact same one.By the way you have not had a gas grill until you have had a Weber Genesis gas grill: they are the best (5 stars) once you get used to their slightly different way of cooking!

3-0 out of 5 stars Short Vs. Long Covers
This is a good cover for the summer or for much use. In the winter there is a tendency for the cover to be blown off in high winds but it is much easier to remove from the grill. The Weber 9856 Genesis Silver B Grill Cover is a very good short cover.

3-0 out of 5 stars Long Vs. Short Covers
I prefer the long weber grill cover for winter protection but in the summer i prefer the short cover. The Weber 9856 Genesis Silver B Grill Cover is a great short cover. Although it blows away in high winds, it is much easy to remove from the grill when it is being used a lot. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When you need to grill a feast to feed a small army or a heavy turkey for a festive celebration, you need a reliable and durable rotisserie. Besides providing even cooking on all parts of your delicacy, a rotisserie is a pure pleasure to watch. Weber's gas barbecue rotisserie includes a heavy-duty electric motor with an on/off switch, a wooden rod handle, and (more importantly) a counterbalance for smooth turning and less motor wear. When your turkey is too heavy for the rotisserie, the rotisserie turns until the heaviest part of the bird gets to the top of the rotisserie. To prevent this problem, just slide the counterbalance up and down on its handle until your turkey turns smoothly and gently, grilling to a delicious golden brown. --Rhonda Langdon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well...when it works
I have enjoyed using my Weber for rotisserie cooking but since buying my first rotisserie about 8 years ago, I am now having to buy my 3rd motor due to it malfunctioning/burning out. I am surprised that with as nice a grill as it has been, that the motor hasn't lasted longer. I cook on the spit about 8 times a year. Weber was nice enough to replace the first motor at no charge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
I purchased the Rotisserie expecting to use it for an occasional chicken. The opportunity presented it self for me to cook easter dinner on the grill and I jumped at it. The rotisserie rotated, marinated and cooked a 5lb lamb roast to perfection. The meat was tender, juicy and perfectly colored. Everyone raved and I couldn't take the credit because its was all due to the rotisserie and my Weber grill

4-0 out of 5 stars It works great, but it's not perfect
This rotisserie fits my 2003 Genesis Silver A just fine, and the chicken I cooked was nearly perfect. It browned beautifully and was delicious even though I hadn't brined it.

That said, it's not perfect. I tested the counterweight but it unbalanced the rotation of the spit more than omitting it, so I left the weight off while cooking. It's nice to have in the event that I try to cook something large and unwieldy. I don't know if a turkey will fit on my grill (it's Weber's smallest), but I am looking forward to trying.

I cleaned the spit and forks right after dinner with a scrub sponge and hot, soapy water. I needed an old toothbrush to get at the crevices in the locking mechanisms of the forks. The manual that comes with it doesn't specify if the forks are machine-washable or not, otherwise I'd have thrown them in the dishwasher. The spit also seemed to discolor slightly from the heat of the grill. It's much too large to put in the dishwasher, so the spit must be cleaned by hand.

The power cord is exceptionally short. It barely touches the ground when the motor is attached to the grill. An extension cord is definitely required.

Despite these faults, I am very satisfied with the rotisserie, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just got mine 2 weeks ago - it's great!
I have the Weber Gen. Silver "B" model grill and I too was confused as to whether this 9890 would work on my grill. I called Weber and was told that the 9890 was the one to use for spit rotisserie cooking.

We received it two weeks ago..my first attempt was a boneless pork roast..I just seasoned it with a garlic rub and it came out so tasty and moist...the family raved!

Yesterday, we cooked an 8.30 lb Perdue Oven-stuffer chicken on it and used just seasoned salt on the skin..again, kudos from the family.

We are so happy we got this attachment. One thing though, we were hoping to cook a turkey on the rotisserie but I believe that we cannot cook a much bigger bird than our 8 lb bird. Does anyone know what the largest/greatest amount of lbs this rotisserie can hold? But if the oven stuffer turns out to be the max we had cook on this rotisserie, we are still so happy.

Hope this helps others who are hesitating in buying this - go ahead..you'll love rotisserie cooking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mine's on the way ...
... and thus my review could change later. But there appears to be confusion as to which grill this rotisserie will work with, so I thought I would contribute. I have a Genesis Silver A, which is the smallest in the current Genesis line, and I was told yesterday (via e-mail and phone, by two different reps at Weber) that this rotisserie will work with my grill. I assume it also will work with the larger grills in the line. (Weber's hot line is 1-800-GRILLOUT, or 1-800-474-5568, so you can check with them.) I also was told that additional spit forks can be bought from Weber customer service. (I hope to cook more than one chicken on mine.)
Finally, I was told that this spit version, the 9890, is intended for full-size chickens, turkeys, etc., whereas the 9891, a cage-style rotisserie, is better for smaller birds like Cornish hens (and, I assume, other narrower and/or longer items like ribs and some roasts). This explains for me why so many of the 9891 reviews seem so negative -- it seems they're being used for larger cuts than the rotisserie was intended to handle. I hope this is helpful, because Weber's Web site and the description here seem unclear. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

For an airtight, secure connection between a liquid propane grill and its tank, barbecue giant Weber offers this quick-disconnect hose and regulator kit from their wide variety of genuine replacement parts. The regulator ensures that fuel safely travels from the tank through the hose to the grill, preventing any leaks or mishaps. This kit fits several Weber grills, including the Free Spirit 500 and 700, Genesis models 1000 through 5000, and the Platinum I and II models.

The kit contains a standard 22-inch, rubber hose. The regulator features a brass collar that users pull back and snap onto the collar of a quick-disconnect-style propane tank, much like attaching items to an air compressor. Affixing the regulator to the tank for a factory seal requires absolutely no tools, while use of articles such as a screwdriver may cause damage. When attached properly, users may notice a gentle whistle or a hum as a result of the full tank, barometric pressure, or humidity. An air vent on the regulator also releases a hissing sound as air circulates. Such sounds are absolutely normal unless accompanied by the scent of gas. Grill owners in rural environments or with pets may opt to purchase a wire hose guard to prevent animals from chewing through the hose. A detailed manual assists users with kit assembly and safety tips. --Jessica Reuling ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Featuring durable stainless steel construction and legendary Weber reliability, the Summit Gold line represents the peak of gas-grill performance. With an input of 44,000 BTUs per hour, this propane-fueled grill offers enough firepower to sear foods for that true-grilled taste. Four rust-resistant stainless steel burners run the length of the cookbox for exceptionally even and powerful heating without hot or cold spots, while infinitely adjustable burner valves lend the flexibility needed to cook with direct and indirect heat. A spacious 700 inches of total cooking area provides enough room for even the biggest groups, and includes a convenient warming rack to toast hamburger buns and a warm-up basket for grilling easily-burned foods like fish or vegetables. An electronic crossover ignition system lights all burners in succession with just the push of a button. The Summit Gold A4 also comes loaded with highly-functional extras such as a fixed commercial-grade thermometer, three sturdy tool holders, and a roomy enclosed storage area with stainless steel doors and a heavy-gauge steel bottom shelf. One removable and two swing-up work surfaces offer plenty of space to spread out sauces, marinades, utensils and other prep essentials plus, they're made from granite-look Thermoset for maximum durability, heat and weather resistance, and easy cleaning. Like all Weber gas grills, the Summit Gold also employs heavy-duty, stainless steel Flavorizer bars to eliminate flare-ups caused by lava rocks and ceramic briquettes. Fats and juices hit the angled bars and sizzle away, adding delicious, smoky barbecue flavor instead of flames. A slide-out bottom tray funnels grease into a removable catch pan for quick and simple clean-up. The Summit Gold A4 is as durable, safe, and efficient as it is convenient. Its stainless steel hood features double-wall construction, adding a layer of insulation to trap heat and protect against unsightly discoloration no matter what the weather. Rugged, weather-resistant wheels are crack-proof in the most extreme temperatures and allow easy transport, while locking casters prevent the grill from rolling while you cook. Burners even have screens to keep spiders from spinning combustible webs inside. Best of all, ten fasteners are all that's needed to put this grill together--meaning you'll go from box to barbecue in less than 40 minutes. Included is a 20-pound tank to hold liquid propane and an easy-to-read fuel gauge. The Summit Gold A4 measures 62-1/2 inches tall, by 60 inches wide, by 34-1/2 inches deep. Backed with a limited lifetime warranty, this grill’s made in the USA. --Mary Park ... Read more
