1-0 out of 5 stars update on ryobi 300028 155r battery:
I just tried to order this patr directly from ryobi #800 345 8746. I was told that it is a special order item only now and is $50.00. this is very upsetting that a battery would cost about 50% of what I paid for the product about two years ago. I also find it very irresponsible of ryobi to let it's customers (former) down in this way. I am writting a letter to them expressing my discontent in this matter. I would suggest that anyone who is the same situation do the same. Our $100.00 plus tool has become garbage as far as I am concerned. I am going to take my $50.00 and by a trimmer that will be supported by its manufacturer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Alternative battery
I assume no liability for this suggestion. The Douglas (...) 12-7-f battery will fit in the case and is a 12v 7AH lead acid sealed battery, and is cheaper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't use what you can't get!
This item is impossable to get! Ryobi does not retail it in any stores that I have found, and I have tried twice to order it through Amazon only to have it cacled by them because "it is not available from any of our sources at this time". So why do I see it all over the internet? I have wasted 3 months trying to purchase it. I don't know who is more at fault Ryobi or Amazon. I do know I will not be doing business with either again.

1-0 out of 5 stars BATTERY & CHARGER DISAPPEARED FROM ORDER ?
I PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE BATTERY/CHARGER MAY 18TH. AS OF JUNE 16th I STILL HAVE'NT GOTTEN IT. I NOTICED NOW THE ORDER DOES'NT HAVE THE BAT/CHARGER ON IT. IT WAS LISTED AT 24.99 AT TIME OF ORDER NOW IT'S 34.99. I'M PRETY UPSET OBOUT THE WAY AMAZON HANDLED MY ORDER !!

Same comment as Cindy. This has been on order since May 15, and now shows "not available". So what are we supposed to do?? ... Read more

Save yourself the trouble and expense of renting a huge tiller each planting season and bring this little workhorse home instead. Its four-cycle engine drinks straight gasoline, and it’s quieter than you’d expect. The fingertip throttle control gives you total maneuverability through any kind of soil, and the till depth is adjustable up to 5 inches. Width adjusts from 6 inches to 10-1/4 inches. It’s surprisingly light at just 26 pounds, but it doesn’t skimp on power. It’s extremely easy to handle, making it perfect for the home gardener. If you've wrestled with monster cultivators in the past, you'll love this hungry little digger.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little machine
I'm a landscaper and, having read another review from a tree-planting landscaper, ordered the 4-cycle model. I had seen the 2-cycle in a local store (for only $10 less!) and noted that the quality of the Ryobi was much better than the mini Troybilt. I did have trouble starting it on the first day, but have gotten used to checking for air pockets in the fuel tubes. So far, I've used it in heavy clay soils to rough in walkways, in semi-compacted garden soils, and in very dry, rocky, tilled soil. It takes a rock larger than 3" to stop the tines. I haven't tried the tree-planting trick yet, but I have four trees waiting for me to plant them and will report my success/failure then.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great When It Starts
Unpacked the tiller and started it according to instructions. All worked well the first few times I test started it. Later that day when ready to work in the garden, I tried to start it again and the recoil starting mechanism appeared to be defective. Some of the time the cord would pull free and not spin the motor. Other times, it was as if the compression wouldn't release and the rope wouldn't pull. Contacted customer service and found that the nearest service center was one-half hour drive away - Ryobi needs more service locations! After a two week wait for repair (and many long distance calls to check on progress), the service center said that after disassembly, lubing and reassembly, the unit starts fine. We'll see...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good buy
The ryobi 510R 4-cycle yard & Garden Cultivator did not work for me. I started the tiller and it ran for about 5 minutes and it locked up and would not run. The local authorized service dealer repaired it but it took over a month to get parts. Then I tried it again and it ran maybe 10 minutes this time before it locked up again, same as before. Now its in the shop again and the dealer says he ordered the parts 3 months ago and has not receive the parts as of today. So I don't rate this tiller at all.You have heard about the LEMON, well I got one. the number to contact Ryobi is a joke, you never talk to anyone before they disconnect.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it!
I don't expect it to compare with the big guys, and for a hundred bucks less than the Mantis (neighbor has one) the Ryobi 4 cycle is the one for me. The first thing I did was to till a grassy area,,,, the grass got tangled in the tines,,,, to my surprise,, the tines come off very easily.

The unit starts easy, is light, not a powerhouse,, but hey it's only $200.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice little powerhouse
When I was reviewing this tiller before purchase, the reviews seemed to have conflicting information. However, there was enough positives, along with free shipping that I went ahead and ordered one. So far it's been a great little tiller. It starts and runs great and does what it's supposed to do. Contrary to some reviewer's opinions, I find that it's quiet - in fact my neighbor's first comment was "Gee.. that's really quiet". OSHA might disagree, but I don't feel that hearing protection is necessary. As someone pointed out, the current picture featured above is different than the actual unit - it is. The actual unit has a longer shaft between the engine and the tines - similar to the Ryobi 410 / 2-cycle unit. Speaking of that - it's great not to have to mix the oil & gas!
The tines will stop when you encounter the right size rock and it jams between the tine and the hood. This is pretty typical of any tiller that I've used.
It is small and will not till a large area very fast, but it does a nice job and sure beats shoveling! ... Read more

Whether you're just starting out or are ready to move up to a gas-powered trimmer, the Ryobi 700R two-cycle curved shaft string trimmer is a solid choice. The trimmer is easy to operate and can handle most grasses, light weeds and decorative trimming with relative ease. A curved shaft provides better balance. An adjustable D-handle reduces vibration and improves control. And Ryobi's exclusive EZ-Pull starting system makes pull-starting a breeze. The trimmer is powered by a carb-compliant, 31cc engine and operates at a trimming speed of 6,100+ rpm. Fingertip throttle control facilitates cutting, while a primer bulb carburetor improves starting power. The unit weighs just 9.5 pounds when fully assembled and comes with all the hardware, parts and attachments needed to get the job done. All in all, a good value.--Carl Thress ... Read more

  • Chrome-plated cylinder for enhanced longevity
  • 31 cc, two-cycle, carb-compliant engine
  • Dual piston rings for lower emissions, better performance and longer engine life

  • Adjustable D-handle for right or left handed use

4-0 out of 5 stars good trimmer
I have owned mine now for 3 years and have had no problems. I never have to pull the string more than three times to start. Easy to maintain - just replace the spart plug every year. Easy to replace line - however, I do wish it took a heavier grade of line as it does need to be replace with each use.

1-0 out of 5 stars spend the extra money for a Echo
The only reason I purchased it was the price had been marked down to $20 because the throttle stop screw had been broken off from the carburator body by someone else who then returned it to the store. Turns out they were factory refurbished to begin with. I was just going to take it appart and never expected it to run. Everything negative(and some positive)I've read here is true. A Echo trimmer will run silky smooth for years and I would be severly dissapionted if I paid more than $20 for this Ryobi.

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
My string trimmer worked well for the first year, since then it has been a total pain in the rear. I would not recommend this model, or the Ryobi line to anyone. As someone else noted, the carburetor constantly needs attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Been pretty good for me
I read a couple of reviews with people complaining it's hard to start. After 2 1/2 years mine still starts right up. Just prime the carb(press the little bubble a few times), set the switch to 'A', and it fires first pull. It has lots of power and, for me, does what it's suppose to do. Only drawback I could possibly see is that it does have a pretty good sized engine that may get heavy for some people after awhile, especially those guys having a hard time pulling the rope.

4-0 out of 5 stars INDUSTRIAL TRIMMER
THE PULL START ON THE ENGINE IS NOT FOR THE WEAK. HEAVY TO CARRY HARD TO HANDLE. POWER IS A 10+. RELIABILITY 10+. AWESOME TRIMMER UNTIL SOME "MF" STOLE IT FROM MY GARAGE AS I WAS CUTTING GRASS IN THE BACK YARD. ... Read more

Ryobi’s got a great idea here. They’ve created a line of interchangeable tool heads that use the same shaft, powered by a gas engine. This attachment-capable Ryobi trimmer sports the EZ-Link connector, which will let you change out the lower portion of the shaft to turn your tool into an edger, cultivator, blower, or hedge trimmer, in just seconds. The shaft slides into the connector with a solid click--no tools required. While Ryobi offers the same trimmer on a straight shaft, we particularly like this curved lower shaft --and your back likely will, too. The bump-release mechanism feeds more string whenever you need it, and unlike trimmers of the past, the SpeedSpool replacement system makes changing spools a breeze. We’re pretty taken with the J-handle and the way it balances the tool in hand. Ryobi also makes a 4-cycle engine for professional landscapers, but this 2-cycle is plenty for the homeowner.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi 725R
I've had my Ryobi 725R for 5 years and it has held up extremely well and still runs as well as the day I bought it. I would highly recommend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars First year was fine, subsequent years are trouble
I received this trimmer as a present so I knew nothing about the quality of Ryobi. The trimmer worked very well for its first season. The EZ attachment makes this one unit very versatile as I quickly purchased the edger attachment. I used the trimmer and the edger without difficulty for the summer. However, during the second season, I continually had to leave the choke on in order for the engine to run. The performance and power level is drastically hampered with the choke on. I added the leaf blower attachment during the second season to assist with the leaves. Even with the choke running, the blower worked well.

The engine is not built well on the 725r. I have taken it apart to clean it thoroughly; however, the performance has not improved. I would not recommend this unit due to the lack of engine quality. I am looking at replacing this unit with a Troy-built one that accepts the EZ attachments I have already purchased.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this one!
First one lasted about four hours, then the recoil starter broke. Returnd for replacement. Second unit lasted longer- about five hours- starter broken again. I took the unit apart to try to fix it and found the starting ratchet was cheap plastic; no wonder it failed. Took it back, got refund and bought a Stihl, which cost more but hasn't missed a lick in 9 months. Oh, and the Stihl actually starts in less than twenty pulls. Imagine that.

1-0 out of 5 stars ryobi trimmerplus
have had nothing but trouble with this since purchase.poor performance, attachments don't work with it and cannot adjust idle to have engine running at top performance.if i could get someone from the factory to contact me maybe i could get satisfaction but they must all be in the witness protection program since i can't find anyone.don't buy this product!!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I quit exchanging it after 3 different units.
We bought this model in 1998 and I loved it and it's attachments, but I began to notice that when I pushed the throttle in all the way, it would struggle and/or choke out. This went on for a year and a half. It had gone through a move from FL to TX. We went back to the store and got another unit just like it. It worked fine for six months. Then something had clogged or the fuel was mixed badly because it would just idle. Then we got a third one, which I admit I broke while I was adjusting the idle speed. Something that kept the engine running while the trigger was released broke, so I had to hold the trigger in to keep it running. That was 2 years ago. We have exchanged it for a different brand that was compatible with ryobi's attachments. It was also 2 cycle and I didn't care for it either. So, 2 weeks ago I purchased a 4 cycle unit. (The TROY-BILT version of the ryobi 875r) I absolutely LOVE THIS 4-CYCLE UNIT!!! No more mixing of oil and gas, so you engine is safer. It is also quieter, and it has A LOT more torque and power. I still have to go easy on the throttle because I'm still used to the 2-cycle power. So, to sum it up, if you have your heart set on a ryobi unit...Without a doubt, go for the 4-cycle available in curved(825r), and straight(875r) shafts. Also, I would recommend .095 line replacement because it is a lot more durable than the .080 which comes with RyobiÕs. ... Read more

This 31cc engine on the Ryobi 2-cycle string trimmer means business. And the straight shaft means no bending to trim under low growth. And the TrimmerPlus feature means it’s not just a trimmer, it’s a shed full of tools. Interchangeable tool heads convert this workhorse into a hedge trimmer, edger, cultivator, blower, or snow thrower in virtually no time because of Ryobi’s cleverly engineered EZ-Link connection. The EZ-Start System is easy on your back; just prime, flip, and pull for an easy start, every time. We like the SpeedSpool line system on this model because you have two line replacement options. Rewind new line onto the old spool or just pop in a new, pre-wound SpeedSpool. A generous 17-inch cutting swath will get you out of your work clothes and into the hammock in record time.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT!
I've owned one of these units for a couple of years and I'm VERY happy with it. The ability to use different tools is great. I have the normal string trimmer attachment that comes with the unit and the Lawn Edger attachment as well. I plan on getting the cultivator attachment next.

A lot of people have trouble with two-cycle engines. They're a bit difficult to get used to, but once you figure them out, they're very reliable and easy to deal with.

The biggest thing to remember is that you have to use pre-mix gas (32:1 gas to good quality synthentic 2-cycle oil) and you must shake the string trimmer a bit before using if it's been unused for a while. You must also shake the gas can after mixing and before using if it's set for a while.

Make sure you press the priming bulb about 6 times when first starting it (but don't keep pressing it if it doesn't start, you'll just flood the engine).

turn on full choke, hold the throttle full open and pull a couple of times until it fires and quits.

roll off to half choke, keeping the throttle full open, then pull until it starts.

Keep the throttle full open, let it run about 10 seconds and slowly roll the choke to full open.

You're up and running!!!

BTW: Make sure you wear hearing protection. ALL gas-powered equipment is LOUD!! I recommend ear plugs (at least 25 db of attenuation). I use heavy-duty ear muffs with my iPod earphones underneath so I can listen to music while I work.

1-0 out of 5 stars three engines did not work
I thought that I was the only one having a problem with a Ryobi string trimmer. I am returning the 3rd one in 4 days. #1 seized. #2 would not start after 1/2 tank of gas. #3 will not start even though the gas is fresh and oil is Ryobi. As were the other 2.

My previous Ryobi brush cutter self destructed. Drive shaft pulled out of the cheap plastic housing. Engine on this runs fine, but the housing is irrepairable.

Guess it is time to find a better brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars WAS a long term Ryobi User
I've had the Ryobi string trimmer for about seven years. Finally wore out the old one and had such a great experience with no problems over the years that I decided to purchase a new 775r. First one I received had a bad clutch. Sent it back to Amazon who readily replaced it. The new one sent had a seized engine. Never ran out of the box because it came out seized. Not sure what's happening with Ryobi but stay away from this company and product. Until this experience I would've sworn by them. Reading some of the other reviews, I'm not the only one who's been let down by the company.

I wrote an email to the folks at Ryobi and got a form email response.

Buyer Beware.

1-0 out of 5 stars 775R TRIMMER PLUS.
I HAVE PURCHASED THIS ITEM 2 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS WITH THE SAME RESULTS. QUALITY OF THE 2 CYCLE ENGINE IS VERY POOR. THE ONLY REASON I PURCHASED THE 2ND TIME WAS I ALREADY HAD ALL OF THE ATTACHMENTS . I THOUGHT THE FIRST WAS ONLY BAD LUCK BUT THE SECOND ONLY LASTED 6 MONTHS AND WAS ONLY USED ABOUT 2 HRS . TOTAL. THIS IS MY LAST RYOBI UNIT. MY YARD IS LESS THAN 1/2 ACRE AND ONLY USED ON THE EDGE OF THE GRASS WITH NO TREES TO TRIM AROUND. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ITEM.THE FINS ON THE FLYWHEEL WHICH COOLS THE ENGINE COMES APART AND DAMAGES THE STARTER MECH. AND ENGINE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this brand
I am mechanically handy but I have NOT been able to start this trimmer. I have had bloddy hands so I have learned to wear leather gloves to attemt to start. This is a total waste of money. They say to have fresh gas. I bought a sererate gas container, went to the gas station and got fresh gas. I added their oil mix and followed all instructions carefully but not even a sputter.

Be warned. ... Read more

This ingenious add-on turns your Trimmer Plus into a blower, or, with just a few simple adjustments, into a vacuum. Its 120 mph airflow and Quick Link connection will have your lawn clean in a matter of minutes, versus a couple of hours with a rake in hand. The balance when connected is excellent; the huge, rugged tube devours leaves and debris in a flash. The bag holds an impressive amount of mulched material and even empties easily. 5-0 out of 5 stars Useful attachment
Overall, I am very happy with the performance of the blower/vac attachment. The blower works well for blowing off pavement, although I haven't tried it on wet leaves yet. The vacuum function works well, too. It doesn't have quite the suction or blowing power of a dedicated blower or mulcher, but it works great for me. Unless you have a huge yard, you probably wouldn't want to purchase an individual blower and vacuum. I would recommend this product for the easy attachment to the trimmer motor and for exceptional value.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the lawn tools you'll ever need in one package.
This is a great system! Wish I saw this attachment before I bought the lone Blower. The Blower/Vac has adequate power, nothing stunning with my 31cc 2 Cycle, but it's the convenience and price that gives it a stellar review. Anyone interested in a almost new Blower?

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to manuver
too bulky. blower strength depends on the trimmer motor. If motor loses it's power, then there goes your blower too.

4-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't do without it!
I bought a Yardman weed wacker which is compatable with the Ryobi stuff. When I saw the Vac/Blower attachment, I thought that it was too good to be true. It has been an incredible attachment. It has cut my "landscaping" time in half and everything looks so much better. This thing even sucks up oranges that have fallen off of my tree. I don't know if that is good for it or not but it just keeps working. The blower is more than adequate and does all that I need. So far I have been very pleased with this item. I would recommend it highly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont be afraid to get it dirty....
Yes, it's made of plastic but so far the abuse I've subjected it to makes me wonder if it's lined with Kryptonite. I recently trimmed my boxwoods and Red Tip bushes/shrubs and after spending 30 minutes raking and picking up debris by hand, I said I wish I had a lawn vac to suck all this stuff up. Hey, I DO have a lawn vac! So....branches, leaves, twigs, etc got sucked up and placed nicely in the bag. A little grunting from the impeller blade but most of it came up aside from a few stubbon leaves. I havent tried the blower part yet but i can only imagine it works as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dual Purpose Wonder/ Blower & Vacuum
Occasionally a company will design and construct a product that reflects consumers needs and this tool does just that. It is simple to assemble and easy to use. Best of all, it performs exactly as advertised.

When using the blower, the lower speed (of the two-speed motor) allows you to direct dirt and dust in such a way that it isn't simply blowing every which way. The higher speed provides enough force to move heavier material, such as a small pile of leaves.

The tool vacuums leaves effortlessly. The leaves are mulched and deposited in the bag. The bag is easy to remove and re-attach to the tool. The bag has a large nylon zipper allowing you to quickly dispose of the debris.

The tool will vacuum up whatever you put in front of it, and on occasion, I have had to stop and remove small branches from inside the unit.

I live in an semi-urban area and the use of gas blowers is limited due to the noise emitted. Luckily, this electric unit is not excessively loud and neighbors have commented they appreciate the (lack of) noise.

I have used this tool for several years and feel it is well constructed. No problems at all to date. In fact, two neighbors have purchased this tool since seeing the results.

A shoulder strap is advertised as an accessory but don't order it since the unit comes with one.

This tool has cut hours out of my yard maintenance time.

To change from blower to vacuum with a flip of a switch, no changing parts is just about the best idea in yard work. I used to pull my old blower/vac out when I absolutely had to and hated taking it apart several times to switch from blower to vac mode as I moved around the yard. Now I use it every week after mowing in no time at all. I can work an area blowing the leaves out, flip a switch and vacuum them up without the hassle of changing parts. My old blower vacuum attachment broke from over use. This unit is light, comfortable and very powerful. A great choice for the home gardener!

3-0 out of 5 stars Bags blow out easily
The vaccum/blower it's self works great, but the bag seams keep blowing out. Replacement bags are $35.00 each and at that rate, it does not pay for itself. We have had ours for 3 years. Within the first 6 months we needed a new bag. We were very careful to keep the second bag emptied and it blew out in under 6 months. That would of been $70.00 in replacement bags in the first year. My husband wrapped the hole with wire and then it blew a hole else where in the seam. For the last year we have been using it as a blower only. I have written Ryobi in regards to the quality of the bag and received no response. If anyone knows of another brand of bag that will fit on the Ryobi and lasts longer, I would appriciate the information.

4-0 out of 5 stars The flip of a lever from suck to blow
I have had one for three years and ordered another. The bag gave out on my old one and the motor is a little noisy and has some vibration. Considering I regularly suck up rocks, I think it has given me good service. I will continue to use this model as long as they make it due to the ease of changing from blower to vacuum and it's reliability.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good
Got my Ryobi just in time to collect my Mulberry tree buds. They are the worst, you sweep them and they break up into tiny pieces of pollen that go up your nose! With the Mulchi, I can blow them into a pile and suck them up quickly (I panicked about the impeller churning up little rocks and sticks, but it seemed to handle it okay). Emptying the bag is a bit of a trick so that you don't inhale too much of your collections but no where near the hassle with a broom and a dustpan. I have an entire summer to wait until leaves become an issue. But as for clean up, I can get my patio cleaned up in no time (this thing blows incredibly strong)...more time for some other chore that needs attending. I chose this machine over others based on the input from other Amazon.com comments which I sincerely appreciated. Happy blowing! ... Read more
