1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the effort!
I had a Robi hand drill for about two years and suddenly both batteries burned out. It cost almost as much for two replacement batteries as I paid for the original drill kit. Now I find that these new batteries do not fit the charger, so I need to buy another item! (which so far does not seem to be listed anywhere)

Next time don't bother. Buy someone elses drill.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi portable drills
I bought 3 Ryobi 12 volt drills, for me and for gifts. All three developed a short in a battery which then burned out the chargers. The replacement battery and charger for each drill cost more than the original drill. This was under light retiree shop usage, and Ryobi would do nothing about it because it was slightly over the two year warranty.

As a trimmer, Ryobi's TrimmerPlus is quiet, efficient and easy to start. But that’s just the beginning: The EZ-Link attachments turn this trimmer into a variety of other tools, all part of Ryobi’s TrimmerPlus series. The .095 line cuts an impressive 18-inch swath, and the professional-style straight shaft gives you great reach for cutting under low foliage. This model comes with a brushcutter attachment that eats up even tougher growth. It’s a 4-cycle 26cc engine, so it’s fueled by straight gasoline, and best of all, this is one of Ryobi’s TrimmerPlus models, expanding the trimmer into a shed full of other tools by attaching different tool heads to the clever EZ-Link trimmer shaft. Ryobi makes attachments that turn this trimmer into an edger, cultivator, hedge trimmer, blower/vac and even a snowthrower. We particularly like this model because of its J-shaped handle that adjusts easily for right- or left-handed use and the comfortable foam grip that encases it. 2-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi 890R 4-Cycle trimmer
I bought my ryobi 2 seasons ago. It has ran well with the exception of 1 time, after I let a neighbor borrow it. It ran bad when I got it back and they had used dirty gas. I fixed it myself by spraying the carb out. I have never had a problem with the motor or power, other than what is mentioned above. At the end of this last season however, I did manage to break the upper flexible driveshaft trimming some light grass in a fence row (done every 2-3 weeks). I never would have expected this from a "brush cutter."

Ryobi's website is not much help, they do have manuals and parts diagrams pdfs to download. 2 out of the 5 service centers (listed on the site) I have taken it to for repair do not even service them. The motor still runs good, so I will look into fixing the shaft myself as I get time, but I wish I had gone with Stihl. My father-in-law had a ryobi and several of the attachments so that is why I looked at this model. He has since bought a stihl as a replacement.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi 890r must have been made by Hasbro
My 890R brush cutter was never worth the money. It never idled and after 2 seasons in standard homeowner usage it leaks oil out the main bearing like crazy. I cannot force myself to buy another due to the fact that so many people are unhappy with it. A service center told me that no one wants to fix the things cause they are difficult to take apart and the cost to fix is close to that of a new one, so why bother.

Is a $200.00 item a throw away after 2.5 years?

4-0 out of 5 stars 825r and 890r
Recently I purchased the 825r, the edger attach, and blower attach. First used edger on moderate job (surface never edged before) at 1.5 yr old property. Attempted to use the edger with low throttle, not good, cranked it up to full throttle (manufacture recommended) and had excellent power and edger results. Engine is smooth, quite, and plenty of torque (compared to 2cycle honda and homelite).825r comes with curved trimmer with very easy winding instructions. Spool winding does not require fumbling around with cord and inner spool disassembled. Simply unscrew the bump knob, insert string through feed holes, replace bump knob, and turn spool counter-clockwise until string is wound with 5 inches excess for initial usage (ingenious).

In addition to the 825r purchase I have since found an 890r laying on the curb waiting on the trash-man. I was immediately interested and retrieved the unit to gain the straight shaft (oem on the 890r) to use with my new 825r. The straight shaft was a decent find; however, finding the unit still in running condition was even better. I adopted the 890r with caked on soil and a few loose screws, cleaned it, and inspected it to find the unit has many hours on it. The foam grip on the loop handle is the only part missing. The engine runs smoothly, has great throttle response and the plastic surrounding the engine has survived un-broken. The clutch is very smooth, the engine is not burning oil (or smoking), and the shaft or gear(s) are not loose or showing signs of excessive wear. The muffler is a bit rusty and has a pleasant rattle.

I can only hope that I get equivalent service from my 825r as the owner of the 890r did and I continue to get.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK-OBI 990 Brushcutter
I am writing a review for a 990 Brushcutter not a 890.
When I bought this big hunk of junk I thought I was getting a trimmer that would help me out in my yard. Unfortunately, I have only been able to use it a couple of times due to I dont know what or why but this beast does not like to start up and accelerate. If you are lucky enough to get it to start, as soon as you give it some throttle, it goes blahhhhhh....
I have had a couple of people look at it whom I know to have lots of engine experience that have not been able to do much. Customer service is the pitts, and if you want something to cut some weeds down in your yard, dont buy a Ryobi. PURE GARBAGE !!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Little Help ....
I would like to start out by saying that I have not bought this model yet ... but am writing based on my 8 years with a 720R, 2 cylinder:
----------
Some here complain about not being able to use the throttle after starting their trimmer:

Change the gas, clean the filter. Last year's dust and last year's gas won't help your trimmer this year. If you are using a 2 cylinder, break the thing down, clean every metal part with gasoline, then lightly oil everything except the inner cylinder or head. Clean the spark plug and check the gap. Store for winter, and you will have a great trimmer next spring.
----------
Some complain that it is not a 'serious brush trimmer:'

No, it is not. It is a consumer grade line trimmer with attachments that allow you to casually perform other functions. The brush cutter is not for clearing land, the snow thrower is not for clearing streets and the tiller is not for growing a garden.
----------
Some say it only cranks momentarily, then cuts off before they get the shoulder harness on:

Again, clean the filter, change the gas - possibly clean the carb. With this behavior, you are burning the gas from the primer bulb, but nothing after that; your air/fuel mix is off probably due to a lack of airflow and gas that is harder to ignite due to partial water content. No, there is no water in your tank per se, but rather that the gas in your area has some alcohol content such as ethanol, methanol, etc... which produces some water.

A way to test this is to completely remove your air filter. Try cranking it now. Works? Probably. Sit down and spend an hour cleaning your trimmer up really well and be happy with it again. However, if you make more an hour than the trimmer costs, don't spend the hour, and buy a new one. Give the old one to a neighbor and tell them to clean it.
----------

My old 2 cylinder has lasted 8 years so far, but I am thinking of replacing it so as to not have to mix oil any longer. In the meantime, I thought I would share some knowledge that has helped me keep my trimmer running until now, and give readers a chance to fairly evaluate some of the reviews here. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere
My strap came with my Ryobi, and is not designed well. The clasping mechanism is simply not strong enough. The clasp seems to be made of aluminum, and bends when any pressure is placed against it. I find that a strap is useful in order to get leverage in cutting tree limbs, but avoid this one... it just is not of any quality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Must be industrial sabotage...
No reputable company could possibly have offered a product of such inferior quality and intended to live by its reputation! On the second use, the plastic/aluminum clasp came apart and could not be fixed. The strap itself with its plastic adjustment is certainly worth far less than the $10.00 that I paid. It definitely should be padded, and I did not find it particularly effective in holding the trimmer at an appropriate angle. Wish I had read the other reviews before making my purchase!

1-0 out of 5 stars I can't imagine paying for this...
Well, mine was included with my 875. The clasp bent open the first time I picked it up. After dealing with that for a while, I just tied it on. So let's just say you'll probably want a shoulder strap, but use any old thing you've got lying around before paying real money for this. It must be embarrassing working for Ryobi.

1-0 out of 5 stars Harness snap didn't last 10 minutes.
As soon as I tightened the strap so it would support the weight of the trimmer, the swivel popped out of the housing. I reinserted it twice, but it immediately popped out. I want my money back!

1-0 out of 5 stars No Way
I'm pretty sure I received this same strap FREE with an earlier Pyobi Stringtrimmer and after using it once, it hasn't been used again. It needs to have some padding (it doesn't), should be easily adjustable (so so), and should be included free with all newer 4-stroke trimmers due to their increased weight (they aren't). I just was just not very impressed the quality of this accessory. ... Read more

If you’ve avoided string trimmers because they’re too heavy or too cumbersome, this is the model for you. It’s a powerful 4-cycle trimmer with an 18-inch swath--and it rides on big, rugged wheels. You also get all the benefits of Ryobi’s clever TrimmerPlus system, which allows you to snap different tool heads onto the shaft, turning the wheeled engine into an edger, cultivator, blower, even a snow thrower. The trimmer unit uses a hefty .105 premium line; most trimmers wield .080. A really nice plus: The unit comes assembled, so all you have to do is gas it up (no mixing of oil and gas, another plus in our book) and go. It’s extremely maneuverable and great to grip, thanks to the padded, slanted handles, aligned at a natural grip angle instead of a horizontal bar. The variable-speed throttle adjusts at your fingertips. It’s a great, hardworking machine with lots of attachment options.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars hard to start is putting it mildly
will the person who wrote and said once you got the trick of starting, please post the trick. I've never been able to pull the cord on mine. it's REALLY difficult. 4-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi 4-cycle wheeled trimmer
Trimmer is very good for cutting behind fences, in muddy ditches, and on uneven ground--light and easy to maneuver. It is easy to handle, and has lots of power---will cut fairly tall weeds.
The only drawback is the starting--it is harder to start than a Honda 4-cyle engine; however, once I got the routine, it starts every time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great trimmer
I got this trimmer over the winter and have used it every time I've cut the grass this year. It's fantastic. Maybe a little less power than a corded or gas trimmer, but if you're just edging it's fine. Just have to move a little slow if you're trimming something thick or heavy. For the trimming I do on a half acre lot, which is along the drain, utilities, sidewalk, retaining wall, trees and flower beds, it has more than enough capacity.

I rarely used my corded trimmer because of all of the hastles moving the cord around my yard. Now I just pick this up, spend ten or fifteen minutes walking around the yard, and I'm finished.

It remains to be seen how long the battery will last, but I don't understand the complaints about batteries dying after two years. That's expected with cordless tools. If this battery lasts two years, I will happily pay for a new one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit heavy and cumbersome
This is the first weed trimmer I have owned or used. I hate gasoline so wouldn't even consider a gas model. I have used this unit a for over 3 years now and it works very well. My peeves are that it is a bit too heavy and awqward to handle. There is something not quite right about the balance - no matter how I adjust the handle position. I would not recommend it for shorter people (under 5'6"). I also had to sand off some sharp edges around the handle that left me bleeding after the first time I used it. What I like is the very long battery life - at least an hour.

2-0 out of 5 stars same with me - 2 years
Got exactly two seasons out of my 150R. Battery didn't keep the charge after the second winter. I even totally drained it last fall before leaving it in its charger all winter. Reminds me of an inkjet printer - decent price, until the consumables kill ya.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for me --- 150R
I bought the 150R in Oct 99 for my dad and then I bought a house the year after so he gave the 150R back to me and have not had any toruble with it till May 2004 when the trimmimg head broke off from the shaft. I will buy the 155R and see how it works out but I got my moneys worth on the 150R

3-0 out of 5 stars Convienent but ...
Very convienent to have two tools in one, but battery life is not great. Can not really do all my trimming with this product and my yard is only about 100x200. Have to trim, then recharge while mowing, then finish trimming. Not the best way to do it, but workable. In process of ordering a new battery after two years as the charge is lasting for a shorter and shorter time. ... Read more

The 700R is a nice, hardworking trimmer that won’t bog you down with bells and whistles. It’s a straightforward 31cc, 2-cycle engine (you’ll have to mix oil and gas) and the bump-feed line system that brings out more .80 line with a just tap on the ground. It’s got a straight shaft, letting you get under bushes and low growth with ease. The D-ring auxiliary handle is easy to swing around for left- or right-handed use. Our only wish is that we’d like to see Ryobi wrap the hard plastic handles in ergonomically friendly rubber. It’s a sturdy trimmer, just right for the homeowner.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Ryobi 765R 2-Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer
I've had several string trimmers and this is by far the hardest one I've ever tried to start. I've spent as long as 20 minutes trying to start it. When I finally get it started, I'm too tired to trim. Would not recommend it to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating with the spool
I bought this and returned it to Home Depot within 3 weeks. The spool was a nightmare, it wouldn't come out, etc, etc. Avoid at all costs!

2-0 out of 5 stars Stripped gears after 2 years
It did an OK job of trimming but I did grow tired of replacing the line. Replacing the line isn't extremely difficult but it is time consuming. I switched to an aftermarket cutting head (big mistake) which had 3 plastic blades. Even with the blades I never used it to cut anything heavy, only for very light use. After about a year with the blades the cutting head decided to quit spinning. After taking it apart the cause of the problem were 2 gears that stripped in the cutting head portion of the trimmer. I wouldn't recommend this trimmer except for extremely light use.

1-0 out of 5 stars can't get the string to load and feed out
Have used Ryobi for many years and loved everything, but this thing is for the pits. I'm up in years and and can't get the string to load as a dual line. Then it would't feed out the other one I had was a breeze but this one is not right for the older people. I had a 725r before and this one is a 765r. Do you have anyone that could send me a picture on how to load this with string. I love your products but this one is flauwed. This one is harder to start also, I worn out after I finally get it started. ... Read more

This spring has been exceptional rainy & warm. As a result, the grass is thick and lush. These conditions posed a real test for the Ryobi 875r. First, it was great avoiding the hassel of having to mix gas & oil. The 875r started on the 3rd pull and cut through the heavy grass with ease. The automatic "bump" line feeder worked flawlessly. I also purchased the add on edger. Even cutting through grass that had grown over the driveway, the 26 cc 4 Cycle engine ran smooth and had plently of power. Since I have not had to add new line yet, I cannot comment on that. But, I do recommend purchasing the shouldler strap if you have a lot of trimming to do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the extra $ for the 4-cycle
The Trimmer-Plus attachments are what initially caught my attention to this trimmer, and it was worth it. First off, it does take a lot to get it started (prime 5 times, 5 - 6 pulls, change choke, pull a few more times, and it's on) because it is 4-cycle. However, each pull takes less effort than 2-cycle trimmers I have used. Also, it runs much more quietly and the exhaust is much less messy (no oil) than my parents' 2-cycle weed whacker. No mixing of gas and oil is nice. The straight shaft is much easier on my back (I had a slipped disk that bothers me still sometimes) than my parent's curved shaft trimmer. The trigger throttle control is a bit too far forward, but it is ok. (This and the starting thing are why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.) I also bought the shoulder strap, but it was a kind of cheap and I returned it. If you are just using the trimmer for a little while at a time, you probably don't need it. Overall, I would recommend this 4-cycle trimmer over a 2-cycle. When you factor the starting issues against the noise, mess, and reduced power of the 2-cycle, the 4-cycle is the better choice, even for the few extra dollars. The attachments that I have purchased and use (cultivator and edger) are very convenient and work just as well as stand alone units. Overall good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars This thing is GREAT! (what are they all griping about?)
It starts easy. Period. I give it 4-5 pumps on the primer bulb, set it on full choke, and it starts on the first pull nearly every time. It has to idle for 10-15 seconds before I can give it full throttle, but then it's off to the races. Way less vibration than the 2-cycles I've owned. Also, the 4-cycle exhaust note is lower and much less irritating. More torque than the 2-strokes too, so I can trim on low throttle much of the time - with much less noise than the 2-strokes. I just haven't got a lot of bad to say. The only complaint is that it leaks oil from the main seal, and I have to wipe it off before I start each use so I don't get oily. Other than that, it's GREAT!

1-0 out of 5 stars STOP DANGER WILL ROBENSON - DO NOT BUY
I live on a fairly hilly lot in the north suburbs of Atlanta. In the past the hardest part of cutting my lawn was pushing the mower up the hills. Not any more! Now the hardest part is starting my Ryobi 875r. I have had the unit for about two years. First year was fair. Yes, I performed all of the service including adjusting the valves. Now, here at year three the trimmer is a nightmare to start and when it does it has to warm up considerably before it is usable.

Yes, new plug, filter and oil change every season, by the book all the way. If I could find the parts I would rebuild the carburetor... not available. If I could call customer support I would ask for suggestions... not available. If I could chew the grass to get a nice straight edge... sorry, I have to go brush my teeth.

Do yourself a favor; click the orange box with the x in it in the upper right corner of your browser. Walk away and never think say or consider the word Ryobi again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Electric w/ Gas Power
This trimmer replaced a cheap-o Toro. I have been impressed w/ its power & quality. It doesn't waste any time when it gets to the big stuff! Oh, and no trips to the gas station either.

4-0 out of 5 stars A serious trimmer ...
Having used cheapo electric string trimmers in the past, I was a bit unprepared for my Ryobi 105R. It is one serious trimmer: very rugged, very powerful, and very LOUD. It will easily tackle most anything that comes its way. If you have a smaller lawn this trimmer may be more than you really need. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with the 105R.

5-0 out of 5 stars speed spool works fine
I was a little hesitant about one reviewer's negative remarks about the speed spool. Turns out you have to read the instructions and learn what the thing will do and won't do. Once I got past the learning curve the thing worked fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wicked little trimmer
The Ryobi 105R is a powerful electric trimmer, yet light-weight enough to handle with one hand if you have a particularly difficult spot to trim, and it is balanced nicely so there is no back strain as there can be with models that have the motor mounted at the bottom of the trimmer. Like all corded electrics it has the disadvantage of being tied to an outlet; otherwise, it is perfect for trimming around the house. More reliable and easier to start than a gas powered trimmer and just as powerful. It's Consumer Reports highest rated corded trimmer.

2-0 out of 5 stars This trimmer is pretty good.
This trimmer performs much like a gas powered trimmer--at the cost of one, too. It is pretty good--but pricey. Because is is so expensive, I cannot say it is a "5 star" value. It trims grass well. ... Read more

The straight shaft on this model affords super easy trimming under low branches and shrub growth with great balance and control. When it’s time for the next chore, just detach the EZ-Link tool head and snap on another, and you’re off. 5-0 out of 5 stars PerformancePlus
Having used gas trimmers before I was interested in a change. An electric trimmer, this time, less noise and gas fumes. So I ordered the Ryobi TrimmerPlus 137r. I thought the quick link attachments were a good idea, if they worked.
After ordering the TrimmerPlus and before I received it, I was concerned that I had just ordered a glorified cake mixer. I began to have my doubts about the performance I could expect from an electric trimmer.
Amazon and Tool Crib delivered the Trimmer (before the estimated delivery date) and as soon as I saw the heft in this Trimmer my doubts started to subside. I took it out into my huge backyard and garden. Whatever doubts I had about this electric Trimmer's performance evaporated. Not only does it perform identical to a gas unit but in many ways it's cleaner, quieter and a whole lot healthier. I had no problems dragging an extension cord around with the Ryobi Trimmer. The bump feature to extend out more string works easily and flawlessly. Trimming under plants not a problem with the straight shaft design.
Now to slip on the Cultivator attachment and chew up that garden. What a great maintenance tool. I am very satisfied. Definitely a superior product.

1-0 out of 5 stars beware
the trimmer works fine, but the bearings went out prematurely. replacement was not available. so all they could recomend is to buy a new trimmer head, as in the snap on accessories like the blower, hedge trimmer, cultivator. the cost cost of any of these is ridiculous. so you might as well throw it away and buy a new trimmer. such a waste, motor is fine .

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, but loud
I've had this unit for several years now, and it has performed flawlessly. It's quite powerful, much more so than you might expect from an electric. It tears through the toughest stuff my property has to offer. If this won't go through it, I know it's time for the Husky chainsaw. The motor is at the top of the handle, as with gas powered models, which helps with the balance.

The variety of attachments available are a nice plus. I've got the edger and just ordered the blower/vac.

I have only 2 complaints about it. The first is that the unit's overall length isn't adjustable; I'm 5' 9" and I find the unit a little too long to allow the head to lay flat - it tilts slightly up in front. This isn't a major problem however. Perhaps this isn't an issue with the 132r, which is the curved-shaft version, but I've heard that staight shafts are more reliable. Second, this is a fairly loud machine. I don't know if it's as loud as a gas-powered model, but it is louder than I expected (and hoped for). It's not the motor that makes so much noise, it's the head and, to a lesser extent, the shaft mechanism. I sometimes wear ear protection if I'm going to be trimming for a long time; the rather high-pitched drone of the trimmer's head can get to you after a while.

Bottom line: if you don't mind dragging an extenstion cord around (get a good one, or you may cut right through it with the trimmer), this is an excellent alternative to a gas model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
The Ryobi 137r String Trimmer is awesome! I replaced a broken, 20 year old Sears Craftsman trimmer with the Ryobi. I admit I'm one of those people that take pride in squeezing out every last bit of life from cars, tools, appliances, and clothes. It's not that I can't afford new ones, but I hate waste and like a challenge. In this case, I wish I'd thrown the old trimmer out long ago... but, then I wouldn't have had the 137r to replace it with! Because I have a small property, I decided to get an electric trimmer to reduce pollution and noise. The Ryobi is as powerful and easy to use as many of the gas driven models I've tried. The dual string with its thicker diameter cut through weeds and sod like a hot knife through butter. I had to be careful around shrubs because the trimmer will go through 1/2" stems. Edging the curb was amazing... it sliced through 2" sod effortlessly and was very easy to control, so the edge came out perfectly straight. The tool is so quiet that while using it, I could hear my portable phone ring from 50' away. Although heavier that the little light-duty unit it replaced, having the motor at the opposite end from the cutting head gives the trimmer wonderful balance and makes it easier to hold and maneuver than the old one. If an electric trimmer is practical for your application, this is the one to get!

4-0 out of 5 stars Like having your own Light Sabre
Moved from Chicago Suburb to 3 acres of farmland. Lot in Chi-land was so small I could mow it with a push reel mower and trim with the little Black & Decker 1.7 amp string trimmer. The new acerage hadn't been touched in MONTHS! Could BARELY see the house! After bush-hogging, it was obvious the B&D was not up to the trimming job, ALTHOUGH, it performed admirably considering it was never designed to handle what I was dealing with. Would recommend it to anyone - but this is about the Ryobi.

Assumed 2 cycle gas was what was necessary - what Consumer Reports concluded several years ago, I think BEFORE this model was available, as they did not review it when the article was written. Found a Homelite at an auction for $..., figuring it'd be cheaper than new and easy to get fixed. NYET- might be easy to fix, 3 different places all gave the same advice - 2 CYCLE STRING TRIMMERS COST AS MUCH TO REPAIR (or more) THAN THEY COST NEW!

That turned me on to electric models. Quieter, no gas and oil, no emissions, RELIABLE, easy to start. Batteries not an option - they don't last long enough, take too long to charge and cost too much to replace or buy a spare. Also, I don't care what anyone says - THEY DEVELOP A MEMORY. I don't mind "dragging the cord" since I had been doing that with the B&D anyway. Although the property is long, I have enough outlets spread around and enough heavy guage extension cord already, that amperage draw over long distance isn't an issue.

The highest amperage unit I could find was this Ryobi. That is THE reason I bought it - POWER. This critter has almost as many amps as my circular saw, and WAY more r.p.m. Also Ryobi has a good reputation, although perhaps not a "professional grade" machine like Echo and Husqvarna. Two year warranty reflects companys confidence it the product.

So far it has performed admirably! I swear, brush actually EXPLODES when you hit it with this thing. I have taken down wild thistles 1" thick with this critter. It DOES THE JOB! The quick attach feature was not important to me BUT it does make cleaning the cutting head much easier - snap it off, wipe it off, hose it down, let it dry and you're back in business.

The trigger on mine seems to "stick" in the on position, but this might be intentional? When you release it, it stays depressed for maybe 1 second, and then releases and shuts off. Surprised me at first - maybe a safety issue, but it DOES make holding it down easier for long periods of time. No idea about long term durability yet, but based on my experience I would heartily recommend this unit unless you really really need a gas one. I swear I actually saw weeds JUMP out of the way of this thing. DO NOT use it ANYWHERE near anything of value - children, spouse, vinyl siding...It is Serious Medicine! DEFINATELY WEAR LONG PANTS, HEAVY SHOES, AND EYE PROTECTION! Also, it "throws" back to the user if you cut with the right side - and away from the user if you cut with the left. ... Read more

Hassle-free starting, no exhaust smell and no power cord to drag behind you—-just some of the advantages to a cordless trimmer. Ryobi’s 12-volt cordless string trimmer is perfect for the homeowner with a medium sized lawn. The 10-inch swath extends easily under low growth because of the straight shaft, and more line advances with a simple bump of the head. Because it’s battery-powered, you won’t wake the neighbors on a Saturday morning. While a little heavier than similar trimmers, we think it’s well-balanced and maneuvers easily, especially when the auxiliary handle is adjusted to your preference. This isn’t the trimmer for long expanses of fenceline, but it’s just right for the average yard. When you’re done, snap the tool into the wall-mount charger, and it will be ready again when you are.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable eletric grass trimmer
I own a Ryobi 150R electric trimmer for seven years. I use it weekly around my lawn during the summer season in south central Florida. The battery finally weakened but I still manage to complete the trimming before it dies. I am now ready to buy another 150R trimmer. I think it's a great tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice convenient trimmer
I have used this trimmer for 4 years. I use it to trim and edge my yard. I just hang it up to charge and pull it down to do my front and backyard. The battery gets weak about the time I have finished the back. After four years, the battery has finally given out. That is why it does not get 5 stars. I have even bought a gas trimmer and still go back to this trimmer. I am currently online to find a battery. I got some advice from another reviewer. This has been a great product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product - less expensive battery
Great product. Has operated flawlessly for ten years. NOTE: Another review alerted those in need of a replacement battery to contact outdoordistributors.com. Their battery is $39.55 + $6.55 shipping & handling. Better yet, go to the source. MTD acquired Ryobi and offers replacement batteries for $31.33 + $9.00 shipping & handling; a savings of almost $6.00. MTD's phone number is (800) 800-7310.

4-0 out of 5 stars Have enjoyed this trimmer for years
I've had this trimmer for four years and the battery finally went out. It wasn't easy finding a replacement - but I finally managed to find one at: Outdoordistributors.com The part you need is: RYO-791-181624. This part number apparently replaces the original type battery. Anyway, got the battery in and am good to go!

As many people have already said, this is not a trimmer for great big jobs, but it does a fine job on general trimming. I love that it starts with one push of a button and there's no smelly gas and stuff to deal with!

P.S. The battery cost $39.55 + shipping

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to go
I have had this one for 6 years and used it every week. It is stong and dependable. I finally need a new spool and head assembly. It can handle the heavier line (.80) but it will not feed as well. Strong on the toughest of weeds but will not cut heavy brush. Excellent on routine lawns. I would buy another. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blower
For the money this blower probably cannot be beat. I had bought a Black & Decker blower/vacumn at Home Depot and returned it. It was so loud it made my ears hurt. No such problem with this blower. While it's not quiet, it was not annoyingly loud like the B&D blower or blowers I've heard my neighbors using.

It does take a few minutes to convert from blower to vacumn but it's not like I'm going to use it every day or even every week. The vacumn/mulcher did a great job with a pile of leaves I had and also was terrific for getting debris out from hard to get to places (small areas adjacent to my house and the steps going down to my basement door). I like the two speeds, as well.

The only potential downside could be that the opening at the end of the blower is a little smaller than others I've seen. This means that it may take longer to get what you set out to do done. If you have a very large yard with many trees, that may be something you want to consider. It should work fine for the size yard and trees I have (and the number of trees adjacent to my property). We'll know for sure come Fall. So far, I'm very glad I bought it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well
Having never owned or used an blower/vac before, I went on Consumer Reports reccomendation of the 190R. While I'm not dissapointed, I must say it's a little less than I was hoping for. First of my complaints is that the tube that connects the collection bag to the unit doesn't attach tightly, causing it to constantly fall off. A little duct tape corrected this, but it is a design flaw, and a potentially dangerous one at that - nothing like getting hit in the leg by a high velocity accorn.

Second, while the vac is strong enough to pick up pine cones and other assorted large yard debris, the mulching blade is not strong enough to cut them up, resulting in frequent stuck blades, requiring partial disassembly to fix. Not a huge problem, but a bit of a time consuming pain. Because of this, I genrally ruin it on low speed, just so it won't vaccume such items up in the first place. I must say though it works superbly on dry leaves, and mulches them up into a fine powder - excellent mulch, or at least requireing much less space in the yard waste bin.

4-0 out of 5 stars amateur rater
I have only used this 2 times. I only use the vacuum mulcher feature. I had to tape the 2 pipe sections together because they kept falling apart. Using it is about as much fun as vacuuming your house. It does mulch heavy alvacodo tree leaves nicely.

5-0 out of 5 stars "TAMES" YARD CLEANUP !!
After comparing several models of electric blowers, I selected the Ryobi 190R....partly because of the features vs. price, and a LOT because I have been so pleased with my Ryobi RT3000 table saw. That proved to be a GOOD MOVE! The 190R has MORE than enough POWER (I wouldn't point it directly at the ground in the high-speed mode when blowing....you might set off several "dust devils" in the neighborhood. Mine was strong enough on the "low" setting to blow away GRAVEL and made me reluctant to try the VACUUM setup, since we have small pets...). As for the FEATURES: The SHOULDER STRAP AND BAG for collecting leaves and mulch is a handy touch; the DUAL-POWER SWITCH is positioned within easy reach; the ONE-OR-TWO-HAND GRIPS help prevent fatigue when doing a big yard; CHANGING from blower-to-vac is a little tougher than going back from vac-to-blower (but neither one is a real big deal); and the DIRECTIONS are CLEAR, but NOT TOO LONG TO READ before you start. All things considered, I think it's a LOT OF VALUE FOR THE BUCKS and would definitely RECOMMEND this product to anyone else considering tossing out THEIR leaf rakes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for the price
I checked this one out in Consumer Reports and it was rated very highly. I am very pleased. It is easy to assemble and has plenty of power. It is also quiet, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciate. I only wish it were easier to switch between the blower and mulcher attachments. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I own one and I use it regularly.
This product is a winner in my book. I own a lake front lot that I am clearing for the first time. The Brushcutter Kit and some other tools have made the job of clearing this 200ft by 20 ft lake front part of my lot much easier. I am in Florida and the natural vines that grow here are just too much for the average string trimmer. The Brushcutter cuts them with little effort.
I am allso using the Trimmer Plus tree trimmer on this clearing job,and man oh man what a tool! I have been able to trim off all of the low branches of the overgrown trees on my lot, and even fall some small trees. The disigner of these attachments has my compliments, and thanks, for making tools that have made my work easier.
