opus top flight bird feeder
The feeder is attractive,relatively easy to clean and it attracts an assortment of birds.The usual assortment is, doves, finches, cardinals, goldfinches,titmice, nuthatches,chickadees, grackles. I enjoy it very much, but sometimes the squirrels manage to get on the feeder. I hung it between two trees on a steel cable, because the squirrels chewed the original telephone wire cable that it was hanging on. They also manage to tight rope walk across the cable, but I strung up some film containers and AOL discs (which keep coming in the mail) and that deters them somewhat.

Decent design, but there's a better choice.
The manufacturer makes this same design with stainless steel top, bands, and perches, which the squirrels have been unable to damage. The stainless steel is a lot harder and tougher than the copper. Removing the bottom tray makes it more difficult for the squirrels to eat, and hasn't bothered the birds. I've had everything from chickadees to red-bellied woodpeckers feeding from this feeder, with all perches full and a waiting line on the railing of my deck. Even the cardinals (for which the perches are really too short) have learned to use it. In short, the design is okay (certainly not squirrel proof), but I'd opt for the tougher stainless steel model. It may not look as nice to begin with, but it will last longer.

squirrels thought this feeder was delicious...
This feeder is made of a plastic tube and plastic bottom. Pretty standard stuff aside from the thin copper top and thin copper bands near the openings. The quality wasn't what I'd imagined, but my expectations weren't that high when I ordered it. I was looking forward to the copper aging and eventually looking pretty cool.
There's a distinct possibility that the squirrels in Maryland are just darned mean, but they disassembled this thing in roughly 4 hours. The feeder openings, to their minds, weren't big enough. So, they expanded them. When the copper got in the way, they just tore it lose. The openings became so sharp and jagged that I feared for all my critters' safety. The service life of this feeder was less than 2 days.
Do yourself a favor and spend a little more on a good quality feeder, like one from droll yankees. ... Read more

OPUS 25101 EXPEDITIONS COPPER TOP SINGLE TUBE BIRD FEEDER
I ordered this copper top bird feeder about two months ago and have been very pleased with it. It holds quite a bit of seed and is very easy to fill. You can remove the bottom tray which I did to discourage squirrels from hanging onto it. I would not call it "squirrel proof", but so far I have not seen any squirrels in it and I am in an area with lots of squirrels. The copper truly does "age" to a beautiful finish. Out of all of my bird feeders, it seems to attract the most birds, including blue jays and woodpeckers. I would highly recommend it!!

Read the Product Description
Looking at the picture of this item, I envisioned a heavy duty feeder like the ones my grandparents used to have; and the price was great... The reality is quite different, but, as I see in the product description, it does say "copper & acrylic." The point is, this product is primarily made of plastics. Yes, it does have a copper top, and a strip of copper around the bottom, but the rest is fairly light plastic. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not what I was picturing. I will certainly use this feeder, and I expect it will last awhile, but before I buy any other products online, I'm going to read all the fine print.

Bird's favorite
I'm no bird feeder expert but I hung a bunch of different brand feeders from a tree in my front yard. They are all filled with the same finch seed - they all look similiar in style. (tube style). This feeder is the most popular among the birds and they don't use the other feeders till this one is empty. It is easy to fill. Only downside - I do have it refill frequently - and yes, seeds drop to the ground.

Not!
I put small, slim, wooden dowels in the copper grids so little birds were able to perch and feed. I had purple finches, sparrows, chickadees, etc. come and visit. They even started to perch on the copper grids and feed. BUT the squirrels found it and in no time had raided it. They found the copper grids handy to hang onto while they reached in and grabbed seeds.

This is a poor poor design
Not only is it squirrel proof, but most of the bird species that frequent my six other feeders found it to be bird proof as well. I have had the feeder up for about 3 months now, and have moved it 3 times after noticing a lack of interest by the users. I have had to change the seed continuously because it sits for so long it starts to sprout! I am very disappointed - It's such a nice looking feeder. If the manufacturer reads this, the design could be appended by puttins perches at each of the feeder bays. After watching several smaller birds try to land on the rungs near the bays, I think they found it was easier to fly to the other feeders rather than try to find a comfortable place to peck away.

The cap design is also frustrating - my cap required some modification to the copper piece so it would actually stay locked in the grooves provided. The copper edge of the cap is very sharp. I have cut a finger messing with the lid. All sheet metal cut edges should be rolled to prevent this.

Its a definite lemon - attractive, but not at all functional.

Not worth the money!!
I purchased 2 of these feeders. First, the squirrels can get into them. More than once and ate all the bird seed. Second, you cannot get them to hang striaght on a shepherd's hook or any type hook. They hang lop-sided and are just a waste of money. We threw them away!

they can't eat!
i don't have a problem with squirrels trying to get in--i have a problem with birds trying to get in! they don't have enough support or room to eat from this feeder. i put up my old ...plastic ugly job and the seed was gone in 2 days. i put this one up and i didn't see a bird for 4 months--except for the few poor woodpeckers who banged their head on the glass middle and then flew away without success.

DO NOT BUY- Feeder is also BIRD PROOF!
The 1 star is only for the apperance. The feeder is pretty, but not worth 1/2 star for performance. I purchased 3 of these, 2 for gifts and 1 for myself. I hung mine up in December and it is now the end of March and I am still waiting for the birds to eat out of it. The seed holes are at the bottom and the birds would have to hang upside down to eat. Once the outside seeds are gone, the other seed is stuck in the tube. This is the worst bird feeder I have ever seen and I am sick that I gave them as gifts. One gift has been returned to me becasue the person I gave it to figured out that the birds couldn't eat out it so he never bothered to fill it up. I wish I could get my money back. ... Read more

I purchsed this feeder which is lovely and the birds like it(even a woodpecker)beacuse it was advertised as "squirrel proof"..BUT it is NOT squirrel proof...The squirrels still enjoy eating the bird seed just as much as they did from the non-squirrel proof one I had..they can't tell the difference except this one holds more seed...

Buyer Beware
Although when I received this feeder I thought it was very attractive, it didn't take too long to see that it would pose problems. To its credit, it does attract many small birds.

Now for the negative--I have owned it for about nine months and the cover is totally rusted and very unsightly. I don't believe it is copper as advertised. It also did not develop a rich patina as claimed. The cage area has held up fine. Also, there are eight feeding ports, but the botton four are unusable, because as soon as the thistle seed gets wet, it turns very hard, clumps together and blocks the ports leaving only the four upper ports operational. This feeder was not designed to protect the seed from the weather and even though it has a large capacity, only half the feeder can be utilized requiring constant refilling.

For the money this costs, you can find much better out there. Stay away from this feeder!

birds use it to a degree, squirrels don't mind it
Not squirrel-proof, they hang down from the top of it,knock the seed out and feed to their heart's content. The ratio of squirrel feed to bird feed appears to be 5:1.

pretty but didn't foil the squirrels- not a good buy!!
This feeder is very attractive but I found that our birds don't seem to use it as much as others we have. In fact it's still full after one month. That's plenty of time for birds to discover a new eating station. I was also dismayed when the squirrels were victorious once again. They didn't get through the bars but they did knock it to the ground and the [heavy duty] plastic broke. Oh well....

Birds aren't attracted to this feeder!
I filled this feeder with the three most highly recommended foods for my area (thistle, black oil sunflower seed, and a mixed seed blend for songbirds) and hung it in the same place where my old feeder was. My old feeder had to be refilled every 1-2 days; not a single bird has come to this feeder and I've had it up for 10 days!!! There is no place for birds to perch while they're eating! Good Value, Works Great, Exactly as Advertised
Some of the other reviewers act as if they were duped into thinking the feeder is 100% copper. Actually the feeder is exactly as described and looks just like the picture.

From the product description:

"The Opus Expeditions copper hummingbird [...] Made from durable, tempered glass, the feeder's 10-ounce nectar container is scratch-resistant and dishwasher-safe. Refilling is easy, because the acrylic top piece [...] the copper base's three feeding flowers have an innermost layer of red petals"

If you look at the picture you can see how the top portion is copper colored acrylic and the feeder portion [the base] is copper. Under the copper base is an acrylic bottom that is also cooper colored.

I have the feeder on a flowering tree that attracts bees and hummingbirds and that is also viewable from my office. The tree is full of bees and hummingbirds. The bees sometimes try the feeder but are soon discouraged. The hummingbirds however love the feeder. It took several days before they tried it but now they are using it constantly during their feeding hours.

In summary, looks just like the picture and works as described in the product description. For the discounted price Amazon charges you can't go wrong with this feeder. I give it four stars.

Not as it appears
This feeder is advertised as being "copper" There is more "copper colored plastic" than copper to this however. The lid is plastic as is the base. There is a little bit of copper on the feeding plate but I was very dissappointed that it was mostly plastic. I sent it back. Had I wanted plastic, I would have bought one of the tacky red plastics ones for [price].

A nice feeder
Although not as attractive to hummingbirds as other feeders, this feeder has some advantages. It is durable and looks good. Unfortunalty, it's not easy to clean. Otherwise, it's an okay product.

Nice buy.
I bought this for my mother who has an extreme hummingbird resort in her backyard. This feeder is beautiful hanging in the tree; however, the birds have a hard time finding the hole to drink from. I had to paint a flower around the hole for them to find it.

It's a nice buy for someone who loves the beauty of it, but it will confuse the birds for hours.

Beautiful
I also have the Opus butterfly mobile, which is equally as beautiful. The construction is solid, yet the bird floats as if it's lighter than air.

My whirly pinwheels go in the backyard. This is a front yard piece. I can't wait to see if Opus comes out with any more of these mobiles. They are artistry in motion. The perfect addition to any landscape.

Never Stops Dripping.......
This is the first hummingbird feeder that leaks non-stop. Basically, its unusable. Plus another problem is the ants that it attracts. It starts out looking pretty, and then just turns into a sticky, dripping mess.
