The Pulse is the perfect multitool for anyone looking for improvements over the original without some of the expensive excesses of the Wave and Supertool. This model also keeps Leatherman one step ahead of the competition by including a serrated version of the excellent scissors found in its previous models. We especially appreciate the comfortable rounded handles, and we think the sharpening groove in the file is a great idea. This model saves on weight and cost by leaving out the serrated knife, the saw, and the extra flat screwdriver that come with the Wave, but we think Leatherman's made the right choice and kept the essential tools. Excellent tool; very handy for a woman!
The Pulse is an awesome tool, for a man OR for a woman. I use mine almost daily -- whether I need a knife to cut something, or some scissors when I'm away from home, or a screwdriver, it's all right there. I can't speak for the advantages/disadvantages for getting a Pulse vs. another Leatherman product, but I can say that this tool has been incredibly helpful to me, and is easy to use. The only difficult part is that the locking/unlocking mechanism is a little difficult at times, but I'd much prefer that to it not working correctly.

And, uh, watch out -- the knife blade is very sharp!!!

Pulse vs Wave
I have both Pulse and Wave. I bought the Wave after Pulse since the Pulse got me in love with Leatherman. In the end, I think the Wave is better by a margin, especially if you use the knives frequently. It is an enjoyment to use either one.

Updated PST, great for fisherman.
This Leatherman tool proves that they listen to their customers. It has all locking blades like the Super tool, the sizzors and diamond file of the PST2. It's no bigger than the original Leatherman. What more could you want?

It's the perfect fisherman's Leatherman. Quick draw pliers, with the rounded edged butterfly handles for releasing hooked fish, a hook sharpening grove in the file, sizzors for trimming excess line. The small screw driver for your reel. An easy thumb control for the locking mechanism. Works with the tool adaptor you already own.

If you were thinking about getting the original Leatherman, or the PST2, or the Side Clip, spend the extra bucks and get this one. You'll be glad you did. If you are considering the larger Super Tool, ask yourself how large a piece of wood can you cut with a 3" blade? Do you really want to clean sawdust out of your Leatherman? vs buying a folding saw. Do you really need a larger set of pliers? If you need one handed blade opening with pliers, then the WAVE is the way to go, otherwise this is the Leatherman of the 2000's.

A great addition to the stable
The Pulse is a great tool. It's a little smaller than the Wave, but has more tools than the original model. The locking mechanism is positive and very safe. All the tools work well and the rounded handles make the pliers very comfortable to use. I also found that the tool adaptor I had for my original tool works with the Pulse. If it had a saw, it would be perfect.

I love the Pulse! The best just keep getting better with Pulse. With all locking blades and rounded handles for better comfort. Unlocking the blades is a snap with lock releases on the outside of the handles. Just use your thumb to slide back the lock release. I can't tell you how many times the Pulse has got me out of a jam. Everything I need
I love this tool! I've owned many different multi-tools, and while some offer features this little leatherman doesn't have, the Sideclip offers all I really need: a good knife blade, a couple of screwdriver tips, and needle-nose pliers with wire cutters. Most usefull, though, is its handiness; relatively compact and light, I clip it in a pocket in the morning and forget it is there until I need it. Like all Leatherman products the Sideclip is solid and well made, plus it is cheap at thirty bucks. Great tool.

Could be perfect, but...
The pliers part is made of softer metal. I've tried once to cut thin steel wire with my SideClip and quickly ruined the pliers, so it became very hard to open and close ever since :( The rest of the tools seem fine.

Better investment than Enron...
I've had my sideclip for over 5 years now, and it's just getting better with time. Smooth action, all the tools you need on the job but not too many. I'm a stage rigger, so the sideclip attaches right to my fall protection harness. It works great since I can't always bring the right tool for the job 120 feet in the air. All leatherman products I have used have surpassed my expectations, which are high as I own a Wave, a PST, and now two sideclips. A sturdy tool, I've alrady bought another one and keep it in storage just in case this one breaks and they stop making them.

This is Great
This is my first Leatherman. For everyday carrying around you can't beat it. Not all of the bells and whistles of some of the others but half of the weight. Everything opens easily for me. The sideclip keeps it easily accessible and not weighing down your pocket. Even the design of the sideclip makes it easy to get on and off. If the sideclip matters to you, you won't be disappointed with the rest of it. (By the way, I did the free shipping and it still showed up in less than four days!!)

Sadly disappointed
This Leatherman was so stiff that I bent back my thumbnail trying to open it. Oiling improved it only slightly, but not enough to make the tool useable. I have returned it for a credit, which I await. Sad. ... Read more

Finally a PST for us Yuppies ;-)
I have to admit that I was pleasant surprised that Leatherman made this tool. The partially serrated knife is very nice as is the bottle opener and corkscrew which works OK. I have to admit I found that the cocktail fork came in handy over the holidays when the office party ran out of plasticware and I used my fork and butter spreader.

This is a good tool for guys like me who don't use their regular Leatherman that much. It's like a Swiss Army knife meets the Pocket Survival Tool at a picnic and someone needs to open a bottle of wine. You may smirk about a tool like this but I can't tell you how many times at work people borrow it.

I do miss the file but the scissors are very helpful and sharp. The corkscrew and bottle opener are gold anodized for a nice look.

You will use this a lot more than you think.

Swiss Army What?
I confess, I've been using a pocket multitool for food uses for some time; they're great for pinboning fish, scaling, cutting, gutting...the list goes on. When I saw the Flair, I wasn't convinced I needed one, as my regular and pocket-sized Leatherman tools seemed to work just fine. Then I tried the corkscrew.

It's lever-assisted, so it pulls out even those tough plastic corks with ease. The tools are useful, and will cut through most picnic foods with great ease - even artisanal breads and the like. The spreader is a nice touch, but I'm not sure how useful the cocktail fork is; if I need an olive for my Martini, I don't mind fishing around with my fingers.

It's a great gift for Foodies (people, like myself, who can tell you which side of the cow a steak came from) that they probably aren't aware of. You never know when they're going to find a perfect cheese, a killer pate or a great bottle of wine and want to share it with you. Don't let a beautiful moment pass you by for lack of a way to get at the goods.

I love this thing!
Like most people, I think I have great need for a leatherman/swiss army knife type contraption but in reality have very little use for them. However, this one is great. The "picnic" uses make it better for me: cork screww, cheese knife, cutting knife. I've used it often on simple urban picnics. I've also taken it camping and it fit every need in my week in the woods.

Swiss Army Knife with Balls
This thing is absolutely great. It has all the most commonly used appliances as well as a can and bottle opener and even a cork screw... Work hard, Play hard...this is the one. Its also built with typical Leatherman quality which has always been exceptional. I install Satellite TV for a living and I honestly pulled this thing out a dozen times the very first day I had it. I swear by it...P.S. I bought it at the largest knife shop in the world and its still about 20% cheaper on Amazon...My mistake.

Need some improvements
I am new owner of this tool and I admit the idea is brilliant compare to GERBER's for compactness, but the linkage mechanism should be RIVETING not BOLTING. I feel so uneasy whenever I use it since the bolts are easily untied and gone away.
If I tie up the bolt, the returning procedure of each tool is very stiff which is very dangerous especially for using knife.
All I found it useful is bottle/can opener because of it.

Simply The Best
If your wondering which brand to buy between Leatherman And SwissTool etc. well can I just suggest you watch any programs on Discovery Channel about explorers or adventure sports participants and see which one they chose. I have only seen leatherman.

I personally have owned the PST for about 4years and only recently had the misfortune of chipping the head on one of the screwdrivers from well a little misuse (opening a screw that was to big for the head) I sent it back to leatherman and they not only fixed the driver but sent me a whole new tool in replacement which means all the wear and tear such as a slightly blunt blade are now all gone.

I like the new 20th aniv. Wave so I just bought it along with the P4 which is a cool little keying, lets just hope they serve me as well as the PST has and will continue to do.

MUCH BETTER THAN SUPER TOOL
The Super Tool is a very useful product. However, it has flaws.
The handles are uncomfortable. One has to navigate the knives to get to the screwdrivers. The Wave corrects these problems.
It feels better in the hand. The nylon case is an improvement over the stiff leather one.

The best tool for me
I have both the swiss tool x and the leatherman wave. They both are great tools but I perfer my wave for some simple reasons.
1.) SIZE: the wave is considerably smaller than the swiss tool in every dimension and since I carry mine on my belt at all times size is a factor. The wave seems to be lighter too but I don't know by how much.
2.) LINEAR LOCK BLADES: I don't like the locking mechanism on the swiss tool, it seems like it will give out one day. The linear locks on the wave are rock solid.
3.) GREAT KNIVES: I perfer the knives on the wave to the swiss tool. I use the knives more than any other part of the tool and being able to open them one-handed is a must for me. The knives on the wave seem stronger than the swiss tool as well and are thicker.
4.) DESIGN: It isn't a big factor but the truth is that the wave looks so much better than the clunky swiss tool (especially the 20th anniversary, which I own.) It is more comfortable to hold due to the smooth contour.

Like I said before the swiss tool is a great tool as well and I use mine all the time, but for a tool to keep on my belt at all times I go with the wave.

Quality & All Made in the U.S.A.
One need not worry about the quality of this Anniversary Wave 20th year edition model. An outstanding black and stainless two tone finish with a well made nylon sheath. There are no sharp edges on the handles to bite into your fingers as other multi- tools. My personal opinion is that the Leatherman Company put alot of the best tools in a compact design.
It looks like this could very well be a collector's item. If you haven't seen this model in the store, go check it out. Leatherman did a great job on this tool!

Quality ! all made in the USA.
I just received mine by UPS today. One need not worry about the quality of the Wave tool or the nylon sheath. This is one of the best looking multi-tools I have seen in awhile.
I have a Buck Tool, a Gerber 800 and a Leatherman Micra Tool.
The 20th Anniversary Wave model has the best features and looks. I really recommend this one cause of the great two tone look & design!
No biting edges as in the older super tool for all the edges are
smooth & well rounded. Made in the USA means alot to me! Thanks Leatherman for a genuine quality USA made multi-tool and a great warranty. The nylon sheath really out does the Gerber brand hands down! My personal opinion is, this Wave has all of the best tools needed in a compact and convenient design. Keep up the good work! After you have worn out your original leatherman sheath, get this one or the basket weave verson. The leather is about twice as thick, the stitching excellent. By using this stitch technique the stress is distributed all along the leather and not just at the rivet points. (Which cause the leather to tear.)

In my opinion this is the sheath that should have been sold with the original product. But hey, they and you saved a dollar on the original purchase, and if you really wear your leatherman around enough to wear out the original sheath you won't mind buying yet another sheath. ... Read more

The basket weave pattern does look a bit "Western", i.e. the "Gun Smoke" six gun at my side look, "Look out sheriff, I'm packing pilers!" but hey, us tool guys don't care about fashion or we wouldn't be wearing pocket pliers on our hip. And it does match the basket weave that a lot of police officer tool belts use. (Which BTW in my opinion all officers should be issued a set of leatherman tools.) ... Read more

Sturdy Pouch for a Sturdy Tool
This is the perfect way to keep your Leatherman handy - that's why you have one, you never know when you'll need to "fix sumptin." It is a great companion to the black oxide finish model, they go together like biscuits and gravy. The heavy duty nylon should last almost as long as your tool. The velcro flap holds the tool securly, yet allows for easy one-handed deployment. I like a belt pouch much better than sticking it in a pocket that is already full of other essential junk.
