Simply the best pocket knife in existence!
WOW! This is an absolutely extraordinary tool. There is no question that I would have to rank it not only as the best pocket knife I've ever used (by a country mile), but also as a definite contender for "product of the year" across categories. I'm the kind of guy who always carries a pocket knife in my back pocket; I've done so for several decades, and have been through virtually every one of the Swiss Army varieties, plus a couple of Leatherman Micras. Since I'm not working on cars or using this as an industrial tool, there's no way that I could (or would want to) fit a full-size Leatherman Wave into my pants pocket. I liked all the tools on the Swiss Army knives, and loved the size, quality and flexibility of the Micra. But then...

...ahh! I came across a Juice display at a retail store, and it was love at first sight! The Juice CS4 is, to my mind, the absolutely ideal combination of size, style, tools, build-quality and functionality that I have ever seen, and without a close second. Let's step through it:

The packageis bigger than a Micra, but much smaller than a full-size Leatherman; about the size of a medium-large penknife. The color is cool blue, which I happen to find quite attractive. The tools are everything you'd expect, and then some. There's an open-spiral corkscrew (the best kind), which actually has an "assist", just like a professional bartender's folding corkscrew. I have *never* seen this on any other pocketknife. The primary fold-out tool is a gorgeous pair of needlenose pliers with wire cutters (unlike the Micra, which only has a scissors), but it ALSO has a strong fold-out scissors on the side. NEAT!

Let's keep going! When it comes to screwdrivers, you just can't beat this thing: it has small, medium and large flat-heads, plus a Phillips (not a dinky flat one, but a real, 3-D one) and best of all, every one of these blades flips out from the center, allowing you to re-close the handles and have a superbly balanced, correctly proportioned, long-handled screwdriver; the best I've ever seen, without question. But don't stop there. This thing has a saw, a can/bottle opener, and an awl with sewing eye.

And a knife! A nice, loooong one that is the sharpest I have ever seen on a pocket tool. It has a solid, tapered blade that cuts through stuff like butter, making it a joy to use.

I realize, on re-reading what I've written so far, that it must sound as though I've gone off my rocker (or work for Leatherman, which, of course, I don't). I really am aware that one just isn't supposed to have feelings like this about a pocketknife! But all I can say is that I simply adore this tool, carry it with me 24/7, and wouldn't trade it for anything. It is simply the finest combination/compromise on size, style and functionality that you will find in a pocket tool (including the rest of the Juice line). It is more costly than most, but without question worth the price. Trust me on this [grin].

Nice for light labor, but less usable than others
I have the CS4, the Wave and a Supertool. I wear my Wave on my belt all the time. This would be my last choice for carrying around on a daily basis.

The bad: Everything is stiffer than my Wave (even a new Wave). The screwdrivers are harder to get out, since some of the nail nicks are shallow and things start out pretty tight. The blade is short and none of the tools lock. Things are not as thick/robust as the Wave, but it is a Leatherman tool: build quality is high.

The good: Everything's small and nothing locks. This is a tool to carry around when you don't want to carry a Wave. It's got enough tools to handle most situations, including a corkscrew. (Yes, I got it for the corkscrew.) It's got enough stuff to be useful in a pinch, but isn't as generally useful as the Wave.

Basically, this tool won't displace my Wave for most days, but it'll be great when my wife won't let me walk around with a bigger tool.

If you're looking for a general multitool, I'd recommend looking at the Wave or Supertool before choosing this one. The CS4 is slightly more expensive but less usable. If you really need a small tool or the corkscrew, this would be a decent choice for your only tool.

CS4 tools needs improvement
We bought two of this because it looks so great in the review and advertisement. After using it for a month, there are some flaws, which should be improved to make it a practical tool. Does anyone know what's the awl for? To us, it is too blunt to be useful. It should have sharper edge so we can actually open envelopes, remove staples, etc. The set of screw drives is comprehensive but take care not to exert too much force on them especially the small one, the tip WILL BEND. Anyway, it was be repaired with the other CS4 :-). If you are a Swiss knife user, you will find the Philips screw tip drive too big for common screws found in the office. Also, you should be real careful about the blade, cause it is really sharp... it hurts but we love it. If you are not too fussy about the strength of the tool, go get it.

Great little Multitool
I recieved this a gift and I can tell you that it's one of the best tools I've ever used. However, I do have two concerns. One is that the blades don't lock which means that if enough pressure is applied, it can hurt someone by folding in. As well, the saw has a tendency to fold onto the awl, I have to use quite a bit of force to make sure that it folds properly. However, the blade is really sharp and the screwdriver bits are the best I've ever seen. As well the tools open with a solid click which is somewhat reassuring. This tool is right for you if your looking for a small multi-tool that will be used for general not industrail use!

Does Leatherman even have customer service?
Twenty Five Year Warranty! boasts the literature. Leatherman's warranty department was completely non-responsive to an emailed query re an anodizing issue. (The anodizing was chipping and flaking off of 1 of 2 I had name-engraved as Christmas gifts- admittedly a bit of a self-imposed problem, but one which deserved a response or reprimand nonetheless.) I ended up sending it (the email) about a half-dozen times, copying both their warranty and marketing departments. Zero. No response - nothing. I would have preferred they tell me to kiss-off, get a life, get a clue, quit engraving, buy a Gerber, etc., but to completely ignore a customer is poor customer service for which one has no recourse save for a forum like this. I have purchased 5 different Leathermans (gifts) and to be utterly ignored is most disconcerting.

As for the product itself, it is an invaluable tool which has become a part of my everyday life - a third hand if you will. I feel naked without it. I've noted that one half of the Juice is slightly wider than its opposite, which I find slightly odd, but typical amongst all like models.

So, c'mon Leatherman, if anyone is listening - please respond to your faithful devotees when asked! You're not the only game in town.

Lastly, at the risk of irritating the Amazon.com police, I've since learned not to have the tools engraved by an outside engraver, rather I now order them thru gunthergifts.com, a Leatherman authorized retailer and engraver (althought they seem to use an etch or perhaps some type of paint similar to what's already on the tool's logo.) A Durable Tool
I came into possession of a Juice in rather odd way. Mine came from under eight inches of sand at a saltwater beach in Southern Maine as a response from my metal detector.

What a great find! This tool was encrusted with salt sand, and a good rinse with fresh water made it as good as new. The only damage is few very small nicks in the anodized handle , which came from electrolylsis.

The tool took that sandy grave without major complaint and works like it just came from the store new. This is testament to a well built quality tool. I have a Leatherman Wave & vastly prefer the Juice. Why? I like the fact the Juice has a phillips head screwdriver, that it is more compact, and has a positive detent on almost everytool when you open them.
The Juice, unlike the Wave has bolsters which makes it feel more hefty in your hand. Someone else quibbled about the corkscrew. That's not the reason to buy a well made tool-or am I missing something here? The Juice has every conceivable tool one might need except perhaps a wine cellar or glass chiller.

Addendum: The "levering mechanism" (for the corkscrew) that some one else mentioned in their review is a can opener opener-not a levering mechanism for the "joke" corkscrew.

I keep it in my car
This is a handy tool. I like the look and feel. I keep it in my car. My girlfriend likes it too!

Near-perfect for pro computer geeks
I picked one of these to replace my original and well-worn Leatherman, and I'm quite happy with it. It's very comfortable, and comes with everything a computer/network tech needs. The pliers are always useful, the knife blades are sharp and strong. The saw is perfect for cutting drywall or plastic, and the screwdrivers are just perfect for times when you have a quick job and don't want to go get a full tool kit. I use this thing literally dozens of times a day, and it does everything it's supposed to. While its perfect for computer pros, it might be a little light duty for automotive work, though it's very durable for what I do with it. If you're looking for a gift for a mechanic, you might want to consider the Super Tool instead, but any geek would love this model. As an added bonus, it looks pretty cool too.

Good but far from perfect.
The Leatherman Juice XE6 is at best a compromise, at worst a bit of disappointment. I have used mine for about 6 months now and most of the time it serves me very well but there are some elements of the design that make me search for different tool to do a job I ought to be able to do with the XE6. I'll list the things that annoy me, anything I don't mention you can assume lives up to the claims in the promotional literature.

First off, the pliers: The jaw design is functional and the jaws seem pretty tough but you'll not get to push them to their limit since the axle they are mounted on doesn't seem up to the job. When you squeeze hard on the handles they flex slightly where they join the jaws. This means when you squeeze the pliers on something thin the handles touch together in the middle (specifically the top of the file and the top of the saw make contact). Often when gripping small things I want to squeeze the handles harder to get a better grip, but it doesn't achieve much because I am already making the handles touch in the middle and also I'm scared of damaging the mounting of the jaws.

Second the scissors: They are sharp but some element in the design means they don't cut very well towards the tip of the blade, even when cutting easy things like thin paper. I think the blades simply meet at an angle too close to parallel, in essence they have tried to incorporate too much blade into the short length and not made the handle long enough. The scissors on standard Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are better.

Third the corkscrew: This is a bit of a joke really, the levering 'assist' mechanism puts pressure on the top of a wine bottle using a single edge of metal about a millimeter thick. I used this for a while but after it cracked lumps of glass off the top of a couple of bottles I gave up and resorted to brute force and pulling the corks out using the screw alone. Being used to removing corks in this manner using a Swiss army knife I don't find the level of force needed much of a problem, but there are further faults with the Leatherman's corkscrew; the screw itself is quite short and narrow, it works fine on artificial corks but it often tears traditional corks in half leaving the other end still in the neck of the bottle.

Lastly a minor point on ergonomics: The screwdriver blades are made to be levered out with your thumbnail. The length of the screwdriver blades means that if you lever one out quickly with your thumb the end of the driver is likely to make quite hard contact with the flesh of your thumb just below the nail. The screw driver blades are sharp enough to cut you quite easily. I have got used to opening the screw drivers without cutting myself but believe me, if you use one you will likely suffer the same minor injuries at some point during use.

This may read like a rather scathing review but bare in mind I have only mentioned the things that disappointed me. Just about everything else is great. The blades are great the file and saw are great. The screw drivers are very high quality. Everything is bundled together into a very compact package and very attractively finished. When closed all the lines and edges are smooth making the tool suitable for carrying in a pocket or bag. There are some very nice touches to the design like a series of small ridges near the base on the back of the serrated blade so you can identify which blade is which without opening them.

Overall I am still pleased with the tool, but I was disappointed by the week feeling pliers and the scissors that are frankly just badly designed.

Impressive Tool
I bought the xe6 to replace a swiss army knife I parted with, and have absolutely no regrets. Unlike a typical swiss army knife, leatherman's concept seems to be building a true tool. The tools in the xe6 are placed well and impressive; The wire-cutters/stripper especially so (How true is that Gene?). One word of caution though and I think the only drawback, the blades don't lock; maybe a minimal drawback, but it you use the blade often you might be well-off buying the Wave instead (wave blade is much longer as well). ... Just Right
I can count on the fingers of a closed fist the number of times I've unexpectedly needed a file, teeny saw, corkscrew, or many of the other tools stuffed into many multitools. I don't like wimpy tools, but I also don't need to hear "Is that a multitool or are you just glad to see me?"

All this leads to my multitool preferences. I want a well-selected set of the tools that really matter, sturdy and high quality construction, and pocket-friendly size and shape. I've handled many multitools over the years. None ever hit the mark until the Leatherman Juice S2.

This is the perfect multitool for EDC (Every Day Carry). It's light and elegant enough to ride in dress pants, yet tough enough to be stuffed into my jeans. This is a pants pocket tool, make no mistake. When folded it has no sharp edges or corners to wear a hole in your pocket. Leatherman does not make holsters for the Juice series because that's not how they are meant to be stowed.

The weight and tool durability/quality are well balanced. Stronger tools would have made the S2 too heavy for pant pocket EDC. Lighter tools wouldn't do the job - as is the case with many Swiss Army Knife tools.

The tool selection is perfect too. The most frequently used tools - knife (only one blade is needed and provided), scissors, and can/bottle opener - are available without opening the pliers. Inside, in addition to the pliers, are soft & hard wire cutters and 4 screwdrivers. No rarely used tools to clutter up my clothes and make the tool clumsy to use.

The Juice tools are designed well and seem to be solidly built. The knife, for example, is just long enough to easily section fruit. It has a hollow grind for easy cut entry, yet also has a spine that is wide enough to offer good flexural strength. The blade is nicely polished. The edge is ground with the correct grit and direction for the sort of cutting the tool is likely to see.

It doesn't hurt that the S2 is also the cheapest Juice. Highly recommended.

Great product for an all around tool...
I have another leatherman and I take it with me everywhere in my truck. It has saved me many times before and I know it will continue to save me in the future. I just bought 5 of these since I am getting married in October for my groomsman. I know they will love it because it will be a good tool for them in the years to come and they will always think of the wedding when they need to use it.

The tools are well set, and the feel is very sturdy. This thing has enough tools to do some quick fixes if something breaks on your car, house or just about anywhere because you have the basic tools to make the repair.

Squirt P4: A great little tool, 8 months later
Introduction:
After having my Squirt P4 for 8 more months, I thought that I would post a follow-up to my previous review.

Good things:
After carrying it on a daily basis for 8+ months, all the tools still have their snug fit. They haven't loosened up at all, and that's a good thing. The pliers/wirecutters have been tremendously useful; it's hard to believe the number of small chores you find to do when you always have a mini-pliers available. And the blade has retained its sharpness well.

Bad things:
Two points here. The gray anodization has begun to chip off along the edges, but considering that I have been carrying it in my pocket rubbing up against my keys, it's not too bad. And because of its size, the bottle opener requires some care to remove bottle caps.

Conclusion:
I still highly recommend this tool.

Squirt P4 - Small tool for small jobs
After carrying around various Classic Swiss Army knives on my keychain for seven years, I thought it'd be time to find a replacement. I still wanted something I can attach to my keychain, and have with me all the time, so I had to find something similar in size with my old SAK. That's when the Squirt caught my attention. The size is similar to a Classic SAK (just a tad larger in bulk), durable, well-engineered (easily accessed tools without unfolding the tool), and very attractive.
I had a choice between the P4 and S4 model, and thought to myself which tool I use more...scissors or pliers/cutters? Being a systems engineer, I used pliers/cutters more often. I took a look at the scissors on my SAK, and noticed how worn out and dull they became after years of abuse (cutting wires, cables, etc.). So my choice was the P4.
I recommend this little tool as a sidekick...a backup. I carry a full-sized multitool around, but there are times where multitools strapped to your waist are not appropriate. For instance, Christmas/birthday parties...when children receive battery-operated gifts and the toy is tied in the packaging with wires and the battery covers require a screwdriver...that's when this little tool comes in handy, but sort of ridiculous pulling out this strapped super tool from a sheath attached to your waist.
For such small, miscellaneous uses, I can't seem to find any flaws with this tool. Why I'd recommend it over other small tools is it's durable engineering. It is built as tough as any other full-sized Leatherman tool. It looks and feels like a scaled down size of a regular tool. Other brands (I won't mention which) I had experience with, the tools and blades bend and break. I've taken this little Squirt to the extremes, and it still feels I got it right off the shelf.

Excellent for the gadget lover
The Leatherman Squirt P4 is an excellent mini-multitool for the demanding gadget lover/outdoorsman/hunter. Solid performance in a small package, and Leatherman's trademark durability and practicality.

Cons? I could have used a P4 while trying to open the package... :)

Squirt P4: A great little tool.
Introduction:
For quite some time, I had been searching for the perfect tool to put on my keychain. I was looking to replace my old Swiss Army knife, lost to airport security. The perfect tool would have scissors, pliers, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, a bottle opener, tweezers, a toothpick like the Swiss Army knives, and more.

In a surplus store, I found a Swiss Army knife with the tweezers, toothpick, scissors, and blades I wanted. I bought it and figured that I would do without the rest. And then my girlfriend, having listened to my monologues on the subject, bought me a Leatherman Squirt P4 in Storm gray.

Good things:
All the tools (except the pliers and wirecutters) are accessible when the tool is closed. The knife, file, bottle opener, and small screwdriver all open on the end away from the lanyard attachment, so it's easy to use them when the tool is on your keyring. The pliers are spring-loaded and are delicate enough to fit into most any space, while being sturdy enough to be useful. The Squirt is only slightly larger than the small Swiss Army knife, so the two of them together fit comfortably in my pocket with my keys. The fit of the tools is snug, but not too tight. And the Squirt feels solid and just looks good.

Bad things:
The Phillips screwdriver, while effective, is on the end by the lanyard attachment and so is slightly less convenient to use. And people keep borrowing it.

Conclusion:
If you're like me and want a small, useful tool to carry at all times, I highly recommend the Squirt P4.

Don't click on the buy button if you think that this sheath is what you need. Coz it isn't. The sheath can only hold the mini-tool and there is no way that you can add the bits in.

Nice upgrade from Micra
I had a Micra on my keychain for over 4 years. It was so useful that even when I was on vacations and don't need my keys, I carried the Micra with me. Sadly, last month, I forgot to check it in with the luggages. Long story short, rather than waiting another hour to go thru security, I decided to part with my beloved Micra.

After I got back, I started to browse for a replacement, and I found out about the Squirt S4. I decided to try out the Storm color one after reading the reviews. It costed a little more than the Micra, but it has a much better design. My biggest complain about the Micra is that you have to open up the scissors to get to any of the other tools. The Squirt S4 solved this problem, and the only time I have to open it up is when I really need the scissors. The Squirt S4 is also a little shorter and has a more attractive shape and color. The Storm color does not look like the picture displayed on Amazon. It has a purple tint under the light which I think is the best of the 3 colors available. It would be nice if there is a natural stainless steel version without the color.

I am very happy with the replacement and didn't mind paying the extra money. Now if I could just remember to check it in next time I fly!

Nice, but the Leatherman Micra is a better value.
I have mixed feelings about this product. I gave it 5 stars because it is a top notch Leatherman product. The mixed review is whether it outpreforms the Leatherman Micra that it sort of replaces.
First, its just a tad shorter and a tad wider than the Micra. You won't notice the difference in your pocket.

Second, the reverse opening sissors is just as easy to open as the Micra. It has all the same tools, although they feel smaller they look like they handle the same set of screws. The bottle opener is a bit smaller but it still opens the lift top bottles just as well.

The tweezers do come completely out from the body of the knife which is good and bad. Good because they are easier to use, bad because they are easier to lose. On the other hand they are well integrated into the body of the knife with a small tab for removing them.

And on the Micra when I open it the tweezers always swing out whether I need them or not.

So its a toss between the two of them. So in general I'd have to go with price, and the older Micra is a few bucks cheaper. ... Read more
