Remember, you pay for what you get.
Buyer beware! I purchased this for myself on the 28th of December. Used it on the 29th. Returned it on the 29th. I would have given this item a zero rating, but Amazon does not offer that rating.

Although it looks like a good deal (especially since B&D's parent/associate company is DeWalt), but this children's toy is made of pure junk. After I tried the hammer setting, I spent the next fifteen minutes trying to figure out why it sounded as if the gears inside were self-destructing. Apparently that sound is 'normal'. I've used a couple contractor grade hammer drills & none I've used before ever sounded this bad.

When put to hard use, the gears that drive the chuck & bit randomly disengage, leaving the motor spinning at full speed, but not drilling. Just as randomly as the chuck stops spinning, it starts spinning again with the cacophony of gears being turned into bits of metal dust.

I have not yet purchased a new hammerdrill to replace this yet, but I plan on puchasing the Bosch or Milwaukee H/D's that are similar in features.

When I returned this to the big box hardware store (H.D.), the customer service rep said that she has had more of these B&D hammerdrills returned than any other power tool in the store... ... Read more

Don't bother
After burning up my old hammer drill in the middle of a job I ran out and picked this one up, just to finish up. It barely scarred the outside of the cinder block I was going though when it began to smell, burning up already! I let it rest. When I used it again it just crapped out, the mechanism that sets it into hammer mode broke. I wasn't able to get though a single hole with this piece of junk. I took the masonry bit out, put it in my Dewalt drill (non-hammer) and finished up. I am a pro and do not abuse my tools, it would be too costly. Avoid Buying Any Type Of Drills From Black & Decker
I have not used this drill that much and the cooling fan broke.
You have to buy a new armature to get a new fan. The armature is back ordered and not available from the company. I guess this is a big problem with this model drill. The last 2 Black & Decker drills I owned were junk, this drill was a gift as was the second.I have only purchased 1 Black & Decker for myself and this is why! Avoid anything from Black & Decker unless you want something to throw away in a year.

you get what you pay for...
this thing really smoked a lot when I was mixing thinset with it. I can't knock it for the price, but it won't last very long for what I need it for...you get what you pay for...

Don't like that switch!...
I have bought 3 of these drills to mix my drywall mud, and to put in tapcons once and a wile. On every drill, the forward, and reverse switch would get stuck, and it feels like it's gona break. It seems to be pretty strong, but when I mix a bucket of mud, I can smell it overheating. I won't buy another one untill they fix that switch!...

Not useful for more than Hammer-Drill...
I needed a 1/2" drill for mixing paint and lightweight spackle.
And drilling metal and concrete anchors.

For the concrete work, it was a reliable and inexpensive choice. But for drilling steel (new bits) or mixing spackle, I wound up (no pun) burning it out.

It is not like my father's old Black & Decker 1/2". The torque alone would rip you a new one. ;)...But for anything else, I'd get something more durable..perhaps a Milwaukee.

Decent
The motor is strong and it's a good value for the price, but it is lacking a few thing which it shouldn't. For one thing, there is no depth gauge even though there is a slot for one. The cord is about 6", and I know they often come short, but that's just sad. ... Read more
