They did not make money off me.
This Flowtron machine did not work for us. I do not profess to be an expert, but with West Nile in Illois like it is, I needed something that would give us the freedom to be outdoors. I could not get the thing going and then when it did I caught 6 bugs in a month and a half. I took it back to Costco and got my money back.
I went out and bought the Mosquito Magnet (for 2 times the money). What a difference. I had to empty the net every 3 weeks or so. It is still going! It did not get rid of ALL the Mosquitos, but it did give us the backyard back.

Power Trap doesn't work in Texas
It would not trap the Asian Tiger Mosquito that inhabited by back yard in Texas

No More Mosquitoes
I received my Power Trap about a month ago and it works great. It was easy to put together and I have had it running for a month with out any problems. I didn't buy the accessory kit to begin with but ended up wanting it and purchasing it. I'd recommend getting it from the start. I have seen the more expensive models but didn't want to spend the thousand dollars they are priced at. I knew if they worked that someone would come up with a reasonably priced version. This model really works I set it up in April thinking nothing would really happen because it was too early in the season but I check a couple of days later and there were quite a few dead bugs in the trap and I haven't seen any flying around in my back yard. It is now early May and I still don't have a bug problem in my back yard.

Worked 1st Time - EveryTime. - Now Killing 1000's per night
I've only used my Flowtron MT-150 Mosquito PowerTrap for a week and I have already killed about 5,000 mosquitos on our cottage lot in South-East Manitoba, Canada.

The PowerTrap worked 100% from the get-go. I also bought a 20lb propane tank and 3 ft BBQ replacement hose. No mechanical or electrical problems. Unit set at "Always On" all week but like the instruction book says the "3 hr & 2 hr" setting would likely do the job. Not many mosquitos caught during the day but once the sun does down - look out!

For the first 4 days I painfully counted the captured mosquitos myself. Days 5 and 6 are estimated counts. (Mosquitos in the collection tray were treated to a sniff of Raid just prior to dumping them on a piece of newspaper. They are much easier to count when dead.)

after a few months of sporadic use I get the famous three blinking lights. the fan starts and stops a few times then the blinking lights start. I mail orderedlast summer so I am SOL but registered here...just to say... that anyone reading this should avoid the flowtron mt-200 like it was a swarm of mosquitos. the performance here in seattle was poor. sirmrks KSCA

Wow where did the bugs go????
This is amazing I check the trap twice a day! The thing is capturing Mosquitos like there is no tomorrow! My kids can go out into the yard without having to put Off on and when we usually have to come in at dusk its not bad at all and we have a stream on our property. Thanks to the folks at Flowtron for letting me use my yard again!

Safe to go outside!!!
I bought one of these off a competing web site last year and paid [money] for it, however, I am very happy with its performance regardless of what I had to pay. I did have problems with it to begin with but then I broke down and read the instructions and learned, for example, that the unit turns its self off when on automatic mode and it gets below 55 degrees and you have to replace the Octenol tables once a month. Now that I have it set up correctly it draws Mosquitoes away from my deck kills them. It kills lots and lots of Mosquitoes, I didn't know I had that many Mosquitoes. I don't understand why people are having problems with their PowerTrap, but my guess is that they don't have it set up correctly. ... Read more

Works well, wonder if there are better.
I have the MT200. Catches lots (Hundreds per day when they are at their worst) of mosquitos. There are still plenty left, but this must have at least made a dent in the population.
Reliabilty is fair, mine has minor defects. Flowtron says they will swap defective for refurbished, but since this is the height of season I haven't put them to the test yet. My questions are that while this unit is less expensive than the competition, since the operating costs are the same, would a better unit be more cost effective in the long run?

The only thing it traped was me.
This is nothing but problems. I bought this unit last year had to send it back for a faulty gas line. The unit work fine for about a week no mosquito's though, and died. No lights,fan or power. Now I own a $400.00 piece of junk.Save your money don't buy this. ... Read more

Tree Hugger
As long as there are no twigs or small branches, this product works exactly as described. But how many trees do you know of that shed only their leaves? Every tree, especially oaks, shed some of their small twigs and branches along with their leaves every fall. It's part of their normal branching and self-pruning physiology.
I spend more time keeping twigs and branches from the chute than I do actually mulching leaves. If a twig or branch happens to get into the shredder, it either clogs the chute, overloads the motor and trips the breaker, or breaks the plastic line that does the shredding.
I tried collecting the leaves by using a blower, hoping the twigs and branches would be left behind and I wouldn't need to sift them out before shredding. This didn't work! Even the smallest twigs are easily blown around with the leaves; and even these tiniest of twigs clog the chute, overload the motor, or break the line.
In an 8 hour day, I can only get about 16-18 regular size garbage bags of leaves mulched. No where near enough for the 60-70 mature oaks and elms I have on my 1+ acre lot. It generally takes me 8-10 days to get all my mulching done with this shredder. I wouldn't recommend it if you have more than a hand full of trees. Get a gas powered shredder instead. ... Read more

yummy hose
Beware this propane hose is not chew resistant. After noticing the smell of leaking propane we discovered that this hose had a hole chewed in it. We turned off the gas and left the hose on the unit until we were ready to go searching for a replacement. When we returned to remove it we discovered that the creature returned and the hose had been chewed to shreds! We have found that this configuration of valves is uncommon and is not carried in any local stores. I had ordered it with the Mosquito Trap assuming that it would last a considerable period of time. Now we find we cannot find a replacement hose that is not chew resistant and for that reason renders the trap unusable. ... Read more

Perfect Phore Porches
Bug Killer is all that needs to be said when talking about the Flowtron. Many a night the kids the ol' lady and I sits out on the porch to watch the fireworks. When Hector, my youngest, comes up to me an says, "Pa, it killed em good eh." I look at him and say yup it sure does. Mae, my daughter, is constantly telling me how much she likes them perty blue lights. She done speaks the truth it is as pretty as the topaz that is on mine wedding ring. The woman likes it too. She is always braggin it up when the Cooterhicks come down from the plot down the way. They are jealous as your friends will be. Mabel, the old ball and chain, does complain about pickin up all the dead critters, but to me that is just a testament to the power of this zapper. I must say I only rated it a four because I once found Zane, my middle son, who is what some call slow on the porch. He had placed his tiny finger in the mesh and was stuck. It was lucky I got there before his hair did more than smoke. Ah well, that same power is great for keepin' them pesky squirrels away.

Good for deck
Had the zapper for a couple of years, while it doesn't get rid of all the bugs in the yard, it gets rid of most of them, although the lager bugs are noisier when zapped.

MINI ZAP!!
The perfect size for small patios, balconies, or screened porches. Zapper has a lower grid voltage than most units at about 1,900 volts. (Larger zappers can have grid voltages of up to 5,000 volts.) This minimizes the loud "SNAP" sound of insects meeting their demise. If you have close neighbors who won't appreciate the noise of your new toy, this is ideal.

The wire grids on the zapper are close enough to allow even the smallest gnats or mosquitos to be eliminated by the lower voltage. The unit also works very well on houseflies. Larger bugs, like big moths or "June bugs" seem to bounce right off, without getting zapped. You may have to clean dead insects out of the grids once in a while. A small brush will work.

The seven watt fluorescent tube is bright (blue colored when lit), but it won't compete with a 100 watt halogen yard floodlight. So, place the zapper in a dark area where bugs are drawn to it first. Also, note that at seven watts output, it draws very little electricity.

One concern: The wound grid design doesn't shed rain water like some of the larger units with vertical grids. It will sizzle and snap if the grids get wet. That is why I gave four stars instead of five. Keep it dry (hang under the eves, or in the screened porch) and it should be fine.

Hey, this (less expensive) machine is the same as that (more expensive) unit, NO!
I thought I could save a ton of cash going for this relatively inexpensive unit. A few friends had much more expensive units that use propane gas to creat CO2, but these unit seemed pretty promissing at a tiny fraction of the cost. Too good to be true? YES!

It just didn't work. Yes it operates properly, but no it really doesn't catch mosquitos. After 2 weeks with my unit I borrowed my friends (more expensive) machine and was blown away by how effective his was. This doesn't do what it reports to do. Buy a can of OFF or spend some real dough and get the real mccoy.

Best of the lot!
I think I have tried them all. Other brands with cross-hatched elements clog up and short out in a few days -- worthless. Other Flowtron units burn out in heavy thunderstorms, and Flowtron does not respond well to warranty claims (they want an exorbitant fee for a new bulb, even though the original bulb is perfectly good). I stumbled onto this model at a going-out-of-business sale. The (normal) fan noise, with occasional zaps, is much less intrusive than constant zapping of others. More importantly, it survives the weather and springtime swarms of midges, zillions of them, that used to pile up an inch thick even on other Flowtron units. Perhaps because the fan helps keep the elements clear, this has lasted through three years of continuous night-time use (it's connected to a photocell switch) until finally the fan started howling.
