False Flipper
This Squirrel Proof feeder is a great idea in theory. But they fail to tell you until you open the box and read the instructions that their Yankee Flipper doesn't work with Red Squirrels. I am now the proud owner of an expensive Red Squirrel feeder. Their claim of a Squirrel Proof feeder sounds like false advertising to me.

Absolutely works!
I have had my Yankee Flipper for more than 2 years now, and it works perfectly.I am almost disappointed that the Squirrels don't try anymore - except for the occasional rookie who quickly discovers that there is no food to be had here.

A couple of points I wanted to add to the other reviews:

1. Droll Yankees customer support is excellent. Some squirrel(s) managed to scratch or bite a small hole into the clear tube, right below the top of the feeder.One quick phone call, and a new feeder tube was in the mail to me at no cost.Impressive!

2. I initially charged the feeder while it was hanging on my deck, until the squirrels chewed up the cable where it plugs into the wall.Afterwards I bought two sets of NiMH batteries (Better than the NiCD that come with the feeder) and I charge them in a wall charger.This way I always have a fresh set ready, and changing them only takes a couple of minutes (unscrew three thumbscrews on the bottom of the feeder, swap batteries, replace screws).

It is a lot of money for a bird feeder, but well worth it!

Yankee Flipper has the answer!
I previously wrote that I had a squirrel that was able to lock up the ring. I contacted customer service and they were so professional and helpful to send me a replacement motor. Well the new one is stronger and faster and no squirrel can stop it! It is almost as awesome as Yankee Droll's customer service! I take back my 4 stars happily. Enjoy the show!

Satisfaction at last
OK, I'm an engineer.I even mounted sheet metal panels along the land and airborne assault routes the squirrels would use to get to the feeder.As a result the house looked like a battleship but the little robber-barons were still on the feeder chowing down the seed.I had to fill it nearly every day.We did not want to move the feeder from our rear window, and the Mrs. was not keen on me escalating to the next level of defensive measures!The Yankee Flipper has done the job, provided us great entertainment, and its large capacity means far fewer reminders to "please fill the bird feeder." ... One of the best feeders on the market...
Having tried a variety of bird feeders, I find this Droll Yankees model to be one of the best.

My reasons?

Well, to begin with, this feeder is highly durable. Squirrels can't chew it and it can withstand some pretty nasty weather. Second, all you need is a bottle brush and some hot water to clean it. Third, it's roomy. If you add a large seed tray (I highly recommend it), the feeder is less messy and allows more birds to perch.

The variety of birds likely to be interested in this feeder brings me to a few issues regarding the use of the Droll Yankees A6F Bird Feeder. Anything the size of a grosbeak is going to have trouble perching unless a seed try is added. Hanging the feeder has its disadvantages as well; jays and grackles will slam into the feeder and fling seeds out of it, which results in a big mess and a general disturbance at the feeding station. MY advice: POLE MOUNT THIS FEEDER, add a seed tray, and a baffle if you have trouble with squirrels and other pests: you won't regret it.

Overall, if pole mounted and equipped with a seed try, the Droll Yankees A6F Bird Feeder is likely to attract a great variety of birds. It is an excellent, reasonably priced, well-made feeder that is likely to provide many years of backyard bird watching enjoyment. A great gift for birders.

Can't go wrong with Droll Yankee feeders!
I bought my first Droll Yankee feeder at a local Wild Birds Unlimited franchise store, and I've been sold on the brand ever since. All of the Droll Yankee feeders are sturdy, attractive and functional. I moved into a new home about 6 months ago and currently the main feeder in my backyard is this 6-port Droll Yankee feeder; the birds love it since there's enough room for six of them to feed comfortably.

While you're buying Droll Yankee, be sure to get one of their peanut feeders as well. Here in South Texas, we attract tufted titmice and scrub jays, among other species, with our peanut feeder. ... Read more

Two thumbs up!
This feeder was an instant success. It took less than half a day for this feeder to be discovered and mobbed by dozens of Goldfinches. I've never had a new feeder adopted this quickly.

We love this feeder!
We are shameless bird feeder collectors. Sadly, so many of those feeders wind up in the basement collecting dust. This feeder is fabulous. There is always a crowd and squirrels can't get the seed. A MUST-HAVE near a kitchen window!

Good basic feeder
This classic bird feeder is very durable and long lasting. With six feeeding ports, it is a better deal than most other tube feeders. If you add a seed tray and fill the feeder with sunflower seed, it will attract a wide variety of birds. Cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, and grosebeaks will perch on th tray, while chiackadees, titmice, nuthatches and finches can land on the metal perches. Best if pole mounted.

A great feeder, but too expensive
This is one of the best bird feeders ever made. If hung correctly, it is almost 100% squirrel proof. Durable, attractive, and easy to clean, the Big Top provides lots of room for a variety of birds. Chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, and goldfinches can dangle at the bottum, while cardinals, jays, and evening grosebeaks feed under the dome. The dome can be easily lowered to exclude larger, more aggressive birds. If this feeder wasn't so over-priced, it would be well worth your money.

For RAIN protection of seeds
Got this with help of a gift certificate.
In Pacific Nowth West the great need is to protect the feed from
the almost constant winter rains rather than squirels. This feeder works well ONLY IF you first SEAL THE TOP WITH SILICONE CALKING where the shaft enters the top assembly. Otherwise the water follows the brass shaft down to the seed. There seems to be
ample shelter for the seed from wind and rain otherwise.
I am planning to get a second feeder like this soon.

The birds love it and so do I
The birds are very pleased with the Droll Yankees 23" Bird Feeder. They have six spots to perch and eat the seed with ease.

The clear container makes it easy to know when it is time to add more seed. And the design makes it very easy to refill. Plus with its cylinderal shape you do not have to worry about the birds getting sick from fecal matter.

I love it, THEY love it
The only bad thing I can say about this feeder is that they fight over it! I was skeptical about the design at first, wondering if they could reach the nectar, then I learned that Hummies' tongues are twice as long as their beaks. This feeder has attracted more Hummies than I've ever had at once, it's easy to clean, comes with a little cleaning brush for the feeding ports, looks nice hanging in my tree, has the silver band around the edge that serves as a perch (they really like this feature), and is designed so that you can see them clearly (no big bottle design that obscures the view from the opposite side of the feeder). I'm looking to buy another one to accomodate everyone and put a halt to the bickering!

One of the best hummingbird feeders on the market!
If you want a durable, practical, easy-to-maintain hummingbird feeder, the Droll Yankees LF is a great choice. It's just the right size for most people; 6 ounces of sugar water is enough to feed up to a half dozen birds for 2 to 3 days. This type feeder is virtually leak-proof, even in full sun and brisk winds. Filling is far easier (and less messy) than with bottle-style feeders: just rotate the red part of the cap to line up the filling holes and pour in the solution. The entire cap comes off for cleaning. The metal rim around the saucer serves as a perch, and there's no bottle to block your view as the birds feed. It even comes with a threaded post mounting socket molded in so you don't have to hang it (very useful in extremely windy areas and where larger birds are attracted to hummingbird feeders).

Because the body is made from an impact-resistant plastic that is virtually impervious to UV radiation, this may be the last feeder you ever have to buy, but if you're like me you'll want more than one to switch out when cleaning or to put up during the peak of migration. I have one that's been in service for more than 10 years!

The small capacity may be impractical if you live in a major flyway, but the only other down side to this feeder is that it's not quite as easy to clean as some similar models, such as the HummZingers from Aspects. The body doesn't come apart completely, making it difficult to reach all the nooks and crannies. However, it's still far more hygenic than most bottle-type feeders. In response to customer feedback, Droll Yankees created a feeder brush that can get into the crevice between the halves of the body and tiny brushes to scrub out the ports.

Love this feeder!
I have my feeder on a window in my computer/piano room. While I compute or play, I can watch my birds. They don't even fly away when I move around. I'm ready to order 2 more.

A danger to birds and windows
I was given this as a house warming gift, and it was cute and charming and we did enjoy watching birds coming to feed right outside the window. We had to remove it within a month because:

- Birds hovering around it kept flying into the glass and injuring themselves.
- Squirrels kept jumping into the glass at high speed to raid it.
- Bird body waste kept accumulating on the window.

It seems like a good idea until after you pick up a dead bird or two from the ground below it, and you realize you really aren't doing much for birdkind with this feeder. The squirrels attacking it hit the window with enough noise to make everyone in the house jump, and it's just luck the glass didn't break and we didn't have a squirrel in the kitchen. Maybe if you have smarter birds and dumber squirrels it will work for you.

Even the flickers like it
The chickadees discovered the feeder 10 minutes after it was put up. Even a northern red-shafted flicker gave it a try and looked pretty silly in the bargain (the feeder is perfect for finch sized birds).

Safe from squirrels and directly in view (if you sit still for a few minutes, the birds will use it right in front of your face), this is the best feeder I've ever had.

NB: if you put up this type of feeder, you should also (should anyway) put up bird silhouettes in the windows. This will prevent birds from flying into your windows and injuring or even killing themselves.

Droll Yankee Hummingbird Feeders are the BEST!
There is nothing like seeing beautiful little hummingbirds darting about their feeders, and observing their different feeding behaviors. Some of them sit on the side of their feeders and leisurely sip, and others continuously stay in mid air, performing amazing aerobatics. The Droll Yankee feeders allow us a birds-eye view, and their feeders are "hummingbird friendly" to the max. I own four of them, and keep them filled all the time for maximum viewing pleasure. Keep them filled all year round! You can get hours of pleasure watching these lovely creatures as they dart about your garden.

Terrible to clean, hummers don't like it
I bought two of these and was very disappointed, they do not come apart (top and bottom) making cleaning them very difficult. I use the red hummingbird food and the hummers don't like this feeder, they peck at the top red portion and have trouble finding the food. If you use the clear food it will be harder to attract the hummers, but they still don't like this one very much. They like my strawberry feeders much better, and I do have some of those that stick on the window as well. I would highly suggest to skip this feeder, cleaning is important for their health, and they visit this feeder the least of all my feeders. ... Read more

A versitle, durable basic feeder
This feeder is one of Droll Yankee's finest, for several reasons. To begin with, it holds just about every type of bird food you can think of. I placed suet in mine and lowered the dome so that starlings could not reach it, while still allowing downy woodpeckers to feed. If you live in wooded area and want a feeder will only allow chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and other small birds to feed, this feeder is perfect for you. Just add some powdered or ground hot peppers to the seeds, suet or nuts your offer in the Saver and you should have minimum trouble from squirrels. The Seed Saver is also easy to take apart and clean. To top that off, I have found it to be very durable. It has a nice, basic look to and is great if you are just starting to feed wild birds. If you want a single functional bird feeder that with look good in your yard, buy a Seed Saver and hang from a tree near a window. The birds should show up in no time.

Unfortauntly, there is little you can do to keep house finches off this feeder and still feed things like titmice or nuthaches. Also: if you plan to feed cardinals with this feeders, make sure it is not swinging in the wind and that the dome is raised fairly high. Otherwise, the colorful "redbirds" will be wary of landing on your Saver.

I have had a Droll Yankee X-1 Seed Saver feeder for five years. It can be filled with any feed, and it's style is suitable for attracting a variety of birds. It is easy to clean, and what impressed me most was it's durabilty.
