Way to go, Dr. Friedrich!
This is one cool thermometer.

We got this for dad as a gift recently. He's usually not a big fan of things that use batteries, but this is pretty simple to use.

The sensor works up to 100 feet, so its highly functional, too. We tested it out in the freezer tonight (a slow weekend) and it works great.

Dr. Friedricks Guppe Wireless Thermometer
I only today received this item so I have no long term experience to report. However, the description refers to the capability to use 3 transmitters but neither the data furnished with my purchase nor anything I have been able to locate gives me enough information to allow me to purchase another transmitter.

Infernal Beeping
If you live in a tropical climate than you are ok, but if you live where the temperature dropps below 40'F don't buy this product. The ice warning is a infernal high pitched beeping which sets off the glass break alarms on my security system. There is no stopping the beep. It is a "built in feature". You have to "destroy" the speeker to get it to stop. Don't get this product. I would suggest the other version that doesn't beep. Other than this it is a pretty accurate (sometimes off a little) but other than that it works well.

frustrating design
Neat idea, but frustrating design. When freeze alarm beeps you must press a certain button to stop it. When it sounds in middle of night it is difficult to find that specific button. Be nice if it had a "silent" mode. If you do press the wrong button, you have reset it--which is not a simple button click. You have to unscrew the back and reset the transmitter unit as well. Not worth it.

If you want to be awaken at 2:00 a.m. by an ice alarm buy
this product. That's what happened to my girlfriend and her 2 year. We didn't realize the alarm was a piercing beep that was pre-set to sound when the temp dropped below 40 degrees. And guess what, you can't turn off this "feature" That's what their customer service told me. They said that opening the back and cutting the speaker wire was the only way. How's that for a design? Also I noticed that when the remote was in the house next to the base, it was reading 2 degrees warmer than the base unit--not very accurate. ... Read more

REPLACEMENT
I like the rain gauge. My only disappointment is that I cannot find a replacement gauge. It has broken, but I would like to continue using it. I have tried stores around where I live, but no such luck. Does anyone now how to find them?

Shoddy rain gauge
This rain gauge was a disappointment all the way around. First, it arrived broken. Second, it was made of plastic when I had thought (judging by the photo) that it was wought iron. And third, it was marked in meters instead of inches. It was made in Germany and should have stayed there.

Plastic
The plastic rain container is good in a warm climate but feels rather delicate. The support rod is somewhat flimsy and doesn't appear to be durable. It is attractive but appears low quality for the $$.

Dr.Friedrich Rain Gauge
I used the Friedrich rain gauge for 9 months. That is until it broke. That was by thermal expansion of the condensate (i.e. the water). The collected rain had frozen. In short, the material of the gauge should have a thermal expansion coefficient greater than that of ice, and not smaller (as it is).

The gauge's diameters (collection area versus collecting cylinder cross-section) are chosen so as to provide useful magnification for reading. That is approximately 2-to-1. The calibration is in l/m² (i.e. litre per metre squared, which equals mm [millimetre] of water depth, as if one were to measure it), and also in inches (as if one were to measure water depth).

In summary good instrument, also suitable for precision measurement, however unsuitable for use at temperatures much below freezing. I wish this problem will soon be corrected as indicated.

Disappointing
I ordered this guage because it has a more elegant design than its counterparts, and I thought it would harmonize nicely with my herb garden. Although the Amazon packers did an excellent job of protecting its fragile frame in transit, it arrived with the curved portion holding the guage at an angle rather than upright. When I pushed--VERY gently--to see if it could be adjusted, one of the curved pieces broke from the supporting ring. The curved frame appears to be much too fragile to hold the guage if there is rain in quantities of the upper range of measurement, especially since the guage leans to one side. This item would be great if the curved piece were wire or wire-reinforced or even made with a more durable plastic. ... Read more
