We got this for dad as a gift recently. He's usually not a big fan of things that use batteries, but this is pretty simple to use. The sensor works up to 100 feet, so its highly functional, too. The gauge's diameters (collection area versus collecting cylinder cross-section) are chosen so as to provide useful magnification for reading. That is approximately 2-to-1. The calibration is in l/m² (i.e. litre per metre squared, which equals mm [millimetre] of water depth, as if one were to measure it), and also in inches (as if one were to measure water depth). In summary good instrument, also suitable for precision measurement, however unsuitable for use at temperatures much below freezing. I wish this problem will soon be corrected as indicated.
