2-0 out of 5 stars These clippers are very small
Ok, so they *are* called "Mini Shears", but beware they are VERY small. They will literally fit in the palm of your hand, and are only about 4 inches long. Don't purchase these if you have serious pruning to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars These Are Nice For Working With Orchids
I have had these handy little shears for several months and really enjoy using them while potting up my orchids. The small size is perfect for trimming back roots before potting up a plant. The thin tip is also good for precise cutting of a spent flower stalk.

As Orchids host at BellaOnline.com I'm always on the lookout for handy tools and gadgets that orchid lovers can use. I definitely think these would make a nice addition to *any* flower gardener's tool collection. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Unleash the power of Corona's new Stratashear technology with this 26-inch bypass lopper. Stratashear 3 is a patented three-stage formula used to reduce friction. Here's how it works: Corona starts with a radial arc, forged Coronium steel alloy blade. A metal alloy is permanently fused to the blade's surface, ensuring abrasion resistance. The fluropolymer layer gives the blade nonstick, continuous lubrication. The result? Cutting is up to 32% easier, so you sweat less, work less, and spend more time sipping lemonade. The bypass blades can be resharpened, and the light, sturdy aluminum handles feature Corona's ShockStop bumpers to reduce fatigue. This model has a 1-1/2-inch cutting capacity; Corona also makes a Stratashear lopper with a 2-1/2-inch cutting capacity. Limited warranty. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars broken equipment
The main nut repeatedly falls off and gets lost. My main nut has been lost. I took the lopper to home depot for help but they disassociated themseves from it. All I need is a nut and nut-cover so that the equipment will be useful again. Your design of this thing is very puqish. Help me or I will damn you some kind of way. I think Home Depots policy should more helpful. This is a small piece of equipment. I could visualize bigger problems for bigger equipment. 2-0 out of 5 stars I don't own these anymore,
(See my review on Felco #2 pruners as to why.) After reading the current reviews on these things, I have to say I'm a little suprised by one (bending cutting 3/8 inch branches... ouch, I don't think that is typical.) I can see these working well for cutting sunflowers... if that was all these were used for I could see giving them a higher rating, but most people will use them for more tasks than that. I bought a set on the advice of a salesman and took them home to try out for a couple of days, and took them back. They're all right, but I think you are further ahead by spending the extra ten bucks on a set of Felco's. Better quality, better feel, better durability. You'll be happier longer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't use them on big cuts... they'll self destruct.
On the first day out, these pruners self-destructed on me. I used them to trim some small branches. They worked fine through several, but then apparently twisted on one cut. The large blade gouged into the small, digging into the metal. I didn't have any warning or "feel" that the blade was twisting and the branch wasn't that thick (1/4-3/8"). I had to take them apart and file away the very large burr. Needless to say, they don't work as well now and I'm in the market for a replacement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Precise. Quality.
I use these to cut/prune sunflowers for wholesale. I've had them for about 3+ years and they've held up great. They are sharp enough for small/precise work, and large enough for significant cuts (which happen often with large sunflower stems). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Leave it to the Corona Clipper Company
You wouldn't think there'd be much to making a decent mini-shovel to handle your small digging jobs around the yard...but when's the last time you used one that didn't either a) bend, twist, or buckle under just the slightest amount of pressure, or b) grow a lovely orange coat of rust the first time you left it out in the rain or in the damp grass?

And therein lies the real beauty of this Corona trowel (and the three-tined hand cultivator also in their "Comfort" line): the tool is a single casting of beefy, rust proof aluminum, with metal thick and sturdy enough to easily stand up to normal wear and tear, not to mention abnormal wear and tear like unearthing bricks or foot-ball sized rocks from the yard (and on both counts, I know of which I speak!). The red rubber handle is thick enough to get a firm grasp on, with a surface texture that will always give you a solid grip, in a bare or gloved hand.

Putting a polished finished on an aluminum garden tool may seem like a needless extravagance, but Corona deserves a kudos for the treatment they've given this small shovel: the super smooth blade surface means less dirt sticking, and it's easier to clean and keep clean. Even better, the edges and corners of the blade are so nicely rounded that you can actually slip the diminutive digger right into your back pocket with absolutely no worries about dicing your dungarees or piercing your posterior!

Of course, the flip side of it's rounded edges is that it won't cut through hard ground or thick grass quite as readily as a sharper-edged hand shovel would, but in my opinion, the trade-off is well worth it to get a tool this durable. And also remember that this is cast aluminum, not stamped steel - if you push it beyond its limit, it will break like a cracker, not bend like a piece of beef jerky.

The great thing about the Corona Clipper Company: they understand that there is a real need for and benefit from using quality materials and elegant design in every tool they manufacture...even something as simple as a five dollar hand shovel. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars locking mechanism sticks
The lopping and sawing work fine, but the plastic extension lock is stuck so I can't loosen it.In spite of that, the extension mechism slips when I put strong sawing pressure on it.This is a very back feature on an otherwise well-engineered product.

I certainly would not buy this pruner if I had it to do over again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bad locking mechanism
The telescoping plastic locking mechanism is of the compression type and does not lock adequately during aggressive sawing strokes. The pole extends instead of completing the down sawing stroke. On the plus side the 13" blade cuts with ease and stays sharp. I've had the same blade after 4 years of use with only the spring finally giving out. Replacement parts are available locally and at on line retailers. With a better locking mechanism I would rate 5 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Plastic ConnectorSlips
The plastic connector is a poor design and slips when fully extended. I bought for triming the upper branches, as I can reach 8 to 10 feet with a ladder.

2-0 out of 5 stars Corona Clipper not without problems
The lopping function of this compound tool works reasonably well, but only on relatively thin limbs--up to about 1 1/4 inches. The saw is a different matter. The blade is beautiful--a japanese pull stroke saw which is very sharp. The problem is in the telescoping pole mechanism. The action of sawing loosens the locking mechanism on the pole, no matter how hard one tries to tighten it. And one wouldn't dare use a wrench because the mechanism is plastic. So it's almost impossible to get enough torque for sawing high up when the pole is continually lengthening itself!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Tree Trimmer
This Corona Tree Pruner is a great value for the price. It is the best Tree Trimmer I have ever used.It arrived in great shape and the packing by Amazon was excellent. This product is highly recommended and you will not be disappointed if you order it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Corona's professional bypass lopper seems to be the Cadillac of loppers. A comfortable 26 inches long, the lopper has blister-deterring nonslip grips and tapered hickory handles. The forged Radial Arc bypass blade has a 2-1/4-inch-diameter cutting capacity. The lopper also boasts a slant-ground hook with a self-cleaning sap groove for consistently smooth cutting. We have to admit, however, that we're really wowed by the neoprene ShockStop shock bumpers. Side by side with other bumpers we've tested, the ShockStop bumpers prove to be distinctly superior in effectiveness and durability. This is the medium-size version of the professional bypass lopper; it is also available in 30- and 20-inch models. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Are you clearing old growth forests?
If so, don't use these. If you are doing light pruning around the house... the I've got a yard and plants and trees and maybe some fruit trees, these are great. Do you need longer handles... I guess that's subective. I'm of the opinion that if you are trying to cut anything bigger than 1 1/2 inch you really ought to use a nice sharp pruning saw. Of course it depends on what you are pruning. These are a little expensive but easy to use, sharp, can be resharpened, and have easy to replace handles. Although I think you'll have a hard time breaking these accidently. If you like quality tools, this is something worth looking at.

2-0 out of 5 stars over priced
This item is way overpriced! It's ok as a pruner, but much undersized as a "lopper." ... Read more

The folks at Corona Clipper know that pruning is an art. This aluminum-handled bypass lopper features their innovative StrataShear blade technology, designed to reduce friction and require less force for cutting. The carbon-steel blade on this model can handle branches up to 2-1/2 inches in diameter and can be resharpened. The handles are lightweight, so your strength won't be wasted carrying the tool around, and the grips are soft and easy on your hands. Rather than using a spring, these loppers have the Alcryn ShockStop bumper to reduce fatigue. This tool is great for both professional and home use. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for most cutting jobs but not best for everything.
I have had an anvil looper for a long time. The anvil looper has a gear mechanism that increases the leverage. It easily cut up to 2-inch branches with one slice. But the blade finally became dull and I could not find a replacement so I decided it was time to buy a new one. I had a difficult time deciding between an anvil or bypass looper. I decided on the bypass because it has 2½-inch cutting capacity and long 32-inch handles for leverage. They should have said 2½-inch capacity if you can cut it because you can't cut through a 2 or 2½-inch tree branch without attacking it several times from various angles. That makes cutting vary difficult. On smaller stuff it cuts great but then the long handles become awkward.

It is a good cutting tool for brush and small branches but next time, when I must buy another one, it will be an anvil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Expensive, yes. But this is an efficient, tough tool.

Just spent many days clearing brush and trees. This tool is the best I have used. I have broken wooden handles on other loppers, struggled with others, and am completely satisfied with this 32 inch Corona. Also consider their hand clippers. The top of the line is fantastic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chainsaw Not Required!
Gee whiz... occasionally, you find a piece of equipment that is truly well-made and worth the extra dollars it costs. Corona's loppers are super! I have 5 acres and along a fencerow I had a lot of willow trees coming up that had already grown to a couple of inches in diameter. They were a real pain to mow around, and I had grown to dread mowing that side of my lawn. One hour with the Corona lobbers in my hands, and they were all laid to waste! I had originally thought about cleaning this undergrowth up with a chain saw, but these lobbers are much faster and a lot easier to use to boot!

I'd had some miniature lobbers that I used to cut roses with. I'd always thought a lot of those mini-lobbers too, but had never paid attention to what brand they were. I knew that on occasion, I had pruned trees with them, which was well beyond their advertised or intended capacity, and they'd always done well. So... when I was hanging up my new giant Corona lobbers, I picked up the little ones I'd had for so long to see what brand they were... Corona also. These guys just make great tools!

I've cut some whompin big bushes and tree limbs with my new giant lobbers, and they've never given as much as a squeak.

Highly recommended -- a tool to keep!

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular
If you need loppers and are balking at the price of these, consider the fact you will buy many of the other kind just to match the durability of these.

When I got these, I had gone through several pairs of both steel and wood handled ones. A friend of mine says these are exactly what they use at work... And he works in a golf-course. Talk about heavy duty.

The only concern I have is as duable as they look and feel, they may lead a person to abusing them.

Comparison shop and these will always be the winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent set of Loppers!
I purchased my first set of Corona loppers about 3 years ago from a farm supply store. I could not believe how much I was spending, but they looked like a high quality tool that should last me for years and I spent the money. Several members of my family live in wooded areas with long lanes back to our homes. About once a year it becomes necessary to trim back the brush and trees along these lanes. Together, we probably trim 1-1/2 miles of lanes. We need a tool that will perform.

The first year I had my Corona loppers, everyone was amazed at how easy they appeared to cut and wanted to try them. Last year after using my loppers for about a half hour, my wife gave me an ultimatum, either I get her a set of Corona's, or she was going to use mine or stay home. I ordered the second pair this summer and we have put them to the test. Her pair is as amazing as the first set. While the first set is showing some knicks and scars from three years of use, they still cut amazingly easy. I have honestly cut green Poplar limbs up to 3" with these loppers by taking multiple cuts, knocking out the chips between the cuts and then I cut through what is left. I have cut dead and dry Beech limbs up to 2". I keep expecting to bend the handles, but they are far stronger than I am. I have had to sharpen the blade a time or two, but there are many years of service left in them. When I need repair parts, any part of the loppers is available as a standard repair part from Corona. They are only a few mouse clicks away. I would recommend these loppers to anyone who needs to do a lot of cutting. ... Read more
