Throw out your chalk lines and trash your plumb bobs—-Crossfire is all you'll need. Just place it where you need it and the Crossfire levels itself for accurate straight, level lines every time. It's spendier than Black & Decker's Sight-Line model, but you do get more for your money, and its "cool factor" is high. First, it levels itself automatically, eliminating the need to squint at bubble vials and ensuring accuracy, something we've never been fond of. But what distinguishes this laser is that it projects two lines at once—-one vertical, one horizontal—-and the position of each can be adjusted individually. So if you need a square work area, the smooth rack-and-pinion mechanism will let you create it easily. We think this is the perfect tool for laying floor tiles or hanging a suspended ceiling. Once you've got your hands on it, you'll find dozens of uses around the house.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Features

  • Projects level lines to take the guesswork out of getting your projects straight and level
  • Eliminates need for chalk lines, carpenter levels or straight edges to mark a straight line
  • Automatically finds and sets a level line without any manual adjustments
  • Projects a horizontal level and vertical(plumb) line across the room and onto the wall it faces
  • Projected lines can be adjusted to intersect and create a square work area

Here's a veritable wunderkind of measuring devices—-the Marksman does everything but buy your project materials for you. We're impressed with how many functions this little unit performs and how easy it is to learn, taking the place of a whole pile of tools, including the pencil. You'll probably use it most often as a measuring device because it beats the tar out of the old metal tape. Just aim it and click, and sonic waves bounce back, letting the unit calculate distance at nearly any angle, thanks to the neat pivoting head. Remember the last time you measured a room for paint or wallpaper? It's tedious work. But the Marksman does it in a few seconds and saves you the trouble of measuring again, too, because you've forgotten the numbers: It stores the results for you. If that's all it did, we'd still call this a winner, but that's just the half of it. It's also a smart stud finder, a calculator and laser pointer. It's incredibly easy to use, the display is easy to read and there's nothing like traveling light. A great addition to the toolbox of anyone from a home owner to a home decorator to a home builder.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • A measuring device, 3-in-1 sensor, calculator, laser pointer and square feet estimator in one small hand-held device
  • Electronically detects distances by emitting sonic waves and then measures how long it takes for them to return to the Marksman

Beautifully simple to use, Black & Decker's Sight-Line Laser Level does everything the more expensive models do, and it does it just as accurately. Your price break basically covers the difference between a self-leveling base and this one, which must be adjusted manually. But since the leveling legs are so easy to manipulate, we don't see that as a big concession. It's thoughtfully designed with three bubble levels, so whether you're hanging wallpaper off a vertical line or chair rails on the horizontal, this Sight-Line charts your course with the touch of a button. It attaches to a vertical surface with just one contact point, whether you're using the magnetic hanging pin or the magnetic drill anchor (which requires drilling into the surface). We like the one-pin design; it feels easier to adjust than other laser levels that use two pins to attach. The laser line is sharp and clear, making all kinds of jobs easier. The micro-adjust base holds the unit on a workbench, table or floor and projects a straight line wherever you need it. You need only adjust the leveling legs, and that's a simple procedure. Once your bubbles are in the zone, just flip the power button and project a level, straight line wherever you need it. We think it's a great tool for laying floor tiles, too, and just plain handy to have around the house.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Features

  • Attaches to your wall with either the magnetic hanging pin or magnetic drill anchor
  • Micro-adjust base sets on tabletops, workbenches or the floor
  • Projects a straight line on and along surfaces
  • Not auto-leveling, but easy to set in a level position
  • Three bubbles to adjust, two bubbles on axis, for greater accuracy

2-0 out of 5 stars Mine broke
I have been renovating my house, and put this saw to a great deal of use. The angle selector handle feels beefy, but if you turn the saw over, the handle connects to a thin piece of cast metal.

This is appearently not strong enough. Mine broke the other day, after about 12 months of periodic use.

Overall the saw was accurate, comfortable and fast to use. Initially the unit appears to be fairly well put together. Once it broke, I took a moment to examine the undercarraige where the failure occured. Yep. Black and Decker alright.

Having owned a few other B & D products over the years I didn't expect too much. I was hoping this product would surpass those expectations. It didn't.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Performer
I bought this saw for one job only but now I use it almost every day. Cuts straight out of the box...no adjustments needed. Sure, I'd like to have one of the sliding/bevel saws, but for 1/4 the price I can buy a lot of other tools with the money I am saving (including a nice circular saw that will do the bevel cuts). The Bosch 10" slider has been sitting in my Amazon shopping cart for a while now, but I just can't bring myself to take the plunge because the Black and Decker does the job. (I must confess that I don't do a lot of moldings).

Four stars only because I wish it had a few more features, but I would give it a full five stars for value.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Great Start to a Basic Miter Table System
If you are looking for a basic miter table system, then this is your saw. The powerful 3 hp, 15 amp motor will get you thru almost any type of wood. The tall fence will hold pieces up to 4 1/2 inches securely. The pre-indexing of the common angle cuts is nice. Overall, a nice basic saw.

Now what it is missing. A short table base requires to add or build table extentions or don't try to cut anything over 3 feet long by yourself. No intergrated stop block system. Compound cuts have to be done with two different setups, this is NOT a compound cut saw, or a sliding saw. The side handle is nice, though.

If you plan on doing any above basic cuts or any length over 3 feet, then you might want to look at the Black and Decker BT1500 with compound capablity and table extentions included.

4-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLE !
I NEVER SAW A BETTER MITER SAW FOR THE MONEY.
THIS IS SURELY THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK..

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a rebadged DeWalt, but still awesome value!
This is not simply an orange or "rebadged" DeWalt, you can't just look at the spec sheets, you have to look at the saws, or better yet use them like I have. Yes, it does have the same motor and motor assembly and cutting capacity (an important aspect), and therefore much of the specs are the same. However, there are lots of important differences (some important, some not) that make the DeWalt "Heavy Duty" and this one, well, not:

- The dust bag support is different and weaker, it can't support a full bag without bending or even (yikes!) breaking.

- The base is made of thinner/lighter stock and won't stand up to as much abuse without bending or warping.

- The base doesn't have any clamping holes in it, and B&D does not offer any aftermarket clamps for it.

- The blade guard isn't metal reinforced like the DeWalt.

- The included blade is inferior to the standard DeWalt blade, and really should be replaced by anybody serious about the quality of their cuts.

- The miter and bevel metrics are either plastic or sticker on plastic, whereas on the DeWalt they are silkscreened stamped metal.

Is the saw a great deal? YES! For [money]vs [money] for the DeWalt, I *easily* think it's the better value for the average Weekend Handyman. But you *do* get something for that [money]. I'm not saying the differences are worth [the money], to most people they aren't (including me), but to somehow try to make yourself feel better about this saw by saying "oooh...it's really worth [more money] since it's identical to that [money] saw" is simply not true.

From a cutting standpoint, if they had the same blade, they would perform the same, and how well a saw cuts IS the most important feature. For [money] you can buy the identical blade which comes with the DeWalt and you'd still be [money]ahead and have the "same saw" from a quality of cut and cutting capacity standpoint. But it would *NOT* be "the same saw, only orange". There are a lot of things that work in unison to make a great saw, and in many of these areas the DeWalt has improvements over it's cheaper sibling to help justify the heftier pricetag.

I'm not advocating that you go out and buy the DeWalt, in my opinion it's overpriced for even these changes I've stated above. Sears sells a Craftsman (Ryobi) for [money] which is the quality of the DeWalt, and one for [money] which blows it away. I'd buy one of those two models, or this B&D, before the DeWalt.

Simply stating that this is identical to a DeWalt but different color is a misleading falsehood. I've seen this posted on multiple review sites, and it's wrong everywhere it is posted.

It doesn't mean it's not a good value, to the contrary, I think this saw is probably the best value in the 10" compound miter non-sliding category. It *blows* away all of the [cheaper] models, and even most of the [more expensive] models, and from a cutting standpoint keeps up with the [most expensive]models.

This saw is a tremendous value @ [the price]. It's just not a DeWalt. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Budget Saw
Works very well with most wood stock. The blade provided isn't ideal. I replaced mine with an 80 tooth fine crosscut blade. Also the addition of one or two clamps would have made this saw a real winner. Blade stop works very well. Dust bag support rod needs to be made stronger. I broke mine the first day and rebuilt it stronger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry: This is the Saw for you!
Pound for pound this Compound Miter is best saw available for the "Harry" homeowner. The extensions coupled with a surprisingly strong motor add to this already good deal. The cuts this unit can make are smooth and accurate. Really if you aren't a "pro".... buy this unit. It comes with a 2 Year warranty (most Industrial units offer 1 year), and is backed by the best service powertool company: Black & Decker! Accessories and replacements are easy to obtain. [...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait
(...)As far as the saw goes: it ofers everything a DeWalt does for (...)less. It cuts great. Don't let this out but this saw is identical to the DeWalt, its just orange.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR HOME USER!!
This Black and Decker mitre saw is a great value for the money. The free extension wings, dust bag and stop block are a terrific bonus! The motor is extremely powerful and the action is very smooth. The nine positive stops come in very handy. The electric brake is a great feature and a necessity for a machine like this. Blade changes are made quickly and easily. I have added an 80T thin kerf blade and have produced supperior quality cuts! My only complaint is that B&D does not produce a hold down clamp of any type for this unit. If a clamp was available this would be a five star mitre saw for the home user!! ... Read more
